Oh, I'd give it a whirl too. I think I'd be worn out in a week, though. And it's NOT because of my age!:mf_rosetinted: Plus I hate to fly.

Andrà in onda, probabilmente a giugno, in prima serata su Raiuno.

The Odd Couple Dario Fo-Mika: together in Naples for "Francesco"

Dario Fo is recording in Naples on the last three days and today he'll finish his work, "Francis, jullare of God," his show dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi. It will be aired, probably in June, on RAI UNO.

Yesterday Mika, who remained in the city ("It 's beautiful, I could not do a little sightseeing") after the triumph in Piazza del Plebiscito for the Nutella day, he met the Nobel Prize on the Rai studios: the friendliness born between the two has prompted the playwright to want the pop star as a surprise guest for his show.

Tonight they'll make a special recording of the show where the man of "Grace Kelly" will be among the students of the school of theater that surrounding Fo on the stage and then he'll interact with Dario Fo.

Thanks for posting and translating. Very neat. I hope us non-Italians will get to see this somewhere. It sounds very cool. I've always liked St. Francis because he loved animals.

I don't think they are a odd couple, though. I think they are kindred spirits, just seperated by age.

Thanks! A bit of the mystery has been solved, but just a little bit! :teehee:

Mika "will be among the students of the school of theater that surrounding Fo on the stage and then he'll interact with Dario Fo."

"to interact" is a quite general verb. :naughty:

This is very cool. I'm sure they will come up with something brilliant. But does he ever rest? Is there any facet of the arts he's not involved with? I adore the man, but he must be exhausting to be around. I couldn't keep up.

:blush-anim-cl: MIKA is young, he's strong - he's not looking for where he belongs. He's cool - he's free, and he's catching his possibility ...:fisch:

Thanks to Lucrezia for the lovely pic, and for translating "The odd couple" - which I don't think is odd at all - it's just two genius meeting again, now for sharing creative time! :thumb_yello: Thanks to A.Clay for MIKAs own wise words about his experience :wub2: I hope we'll be able to watch the program!!

Love,love

Two words about this particular show, if you like, that Fo is playing in theater throughout Italy with much success.

In the show , Fo is a storyteller, he is alone on stage with the public around him, according to the oral tradition that was used in the Middle Ages: someone tell a story and spontaneously gathered around him a small crowd of curious listeners.

He tells to the public the life of Francesco (Assisi 1182-1226 AC), who founded the religious ordin of "Francescani", and who is venerated as saint from the catholic Church. The figure of Francesco, about a year ago, inspired the name of our current pope Bergoglio.

Fo recites in the dialect spoken in the region of Umbria in central Italy , where Francesco was born.

Fo's show is a sort of narrative - historical document , the result of much study and research. He tells the story , however, in comical and ironic way, adding special little episodes almost unknown, some rediscovered copies of Benedictine monks diaries immune to censorship of the Church.

The youthful figure of Francesco is very interesting to tell, because Francesco in his life, has been very "cumbersome" and annoying to the power : precocious , rebellious, intelligent, educated, rich...he gave up everything to live in poverty closed to nature...a pure and rigorous man, especially for preaching the absolute poverty of the Ministry of God, openly threatening the glories and powers in which the Church wallowed for centuries .

We'll see what Mika has to do with the story of St. Francesco ......:mf_rosetinted:

Thank you Marta for the summary!

If anyone wants to read the novel before the show in June, I have the English translation of it made by Mario Pirovano who brought the show in many theaters in England.

In this way, you can understand what they will say in Italian (let's think that it's like a "booklet" that they give you when you go to see an italian opera) :wink2:

Maybe we should open a thread about it?

This was very helpful, thank you so much for the summary! :flowers2: I'm so happy to hear about this project. It can't be as special for us foreigners as it is to you Italian fans but for me it's enough to know that it will surely be super special for Mika :wub2: Every comment and explanation people share here helps me to understand this project, I'm very grateful of them all.

'Spending time with a genius puts many things in perspective.

Back at hotel after two days working with Dario Fo in Napoli.'

I'm really interested in the result! Luckily, we won't wait for so long - till June (i hope - not till the top of the year :naughty: ).

By the way, I think that the portrait of "Il mio amico Vesuvio" is a great success. So charming :thumb_yello:
