Hero
Seen a new cheese in Tesco called Fleur des Alpes. It looks like camembert, but is described as mild and nutty. It's a 3 on the strength scale. Looks interesting, might get some to try next week.
holdingyourdrink
Left to right; Chabicou Mont d’or Tiroler Bergkäse (Tirol Mountaincheese) Saint-Flour Epoisses!!!! I love the Saint-Flour (the blue cheese) best, but that’s just what I like best tastewise. I LOOOOVE strong cheeses. However, the Epoisses was a very close second. I wonder if it would’ve been served at the appropriate temperature (warmer than it was now), if my rating would change. I will just have to try again

holdingyourdrink
5 hours ago, Hero said: Very nice! What were the other flavours like? The Chabicou is a mild goat cheese. The Mont D’Or should actually be served warmer like the Epoisses, but on a cheeseplate like this it’s not possible, because they will both be too runny. It is actually a lot milder than the Epoisses. The Tiroler Bergkäse is a hard cheese. Cheeseplates are usually served in order from mild to strong, so that’s also how I enjoyed them. I personally don’t like the toasted bread with it, so I didn’t eat it. But the fig spread! Ah! Perfect!

TinyLove_CJ
Now this is the good stuff when it comes to cheese spread! It doesn't say on the packet here but it is cheddar cheese, has a good strong taste to it and works well on so many things! I tried it on crackers, biscuits and even a tea cake! I bought some at the start of the week and now it's all gone

Yeah like that! There is mustardoil in there to make it spicy, otherwise it looks like a regular jam.

Got a pot to try on your recommendation. Yummy! You know you're eating cheese, not like some flavourless spreads. The blurb made me laugh though - "proudly made with Scottish cheese! Spread produced in France."

They make other flavours too, I'd like to try the 'smokey' and the 'vintage' but I've yet to find them actually in a store, I may have to look around in a few places!

TinyLove_CJ
Seeing as it's coming up to Christmas I thought I'd share this cheese tradition from the Chelsea Pensioners (retired soldiers of the British Army). Each year a cheese is donated from Dairy UK to the Pensioners and they perform the Ceremony of the Christmas Cheeses. It involves blessing the cheese and making the first cut with a ceremonial sword. You can watch the 2020 ceremony here: They then of course eat the cheese! You can read more about it here too: https://www.chelsea-pensioners.co.uk/christmas-traditions
