Amour Pirate - lyrics and song discussions

I need one word to complete the snipet :dunno:

Seul au fond de la mer

Dis moi à quoi ça sert

D 'être comme un trésor

Que personne n'adore

Fais gaffe car je te mate

Regarde ce que tu rates

Sans danger tout est flasque (or flaque?)  (or ......flat ????? :dunno:)

Chaque amour a son pirate

L'amour et la haine

Quand même ça vaut la peine

C'est comme échec et mat

Chaque amour a son pirate

Amour , amour ,pirate

Amour , amour , amour

Thanks! I've used your post to open a thread for this song.

Google translation:

Alone at the bottom of the sea
Tell me what it's for
To be like a treasure
That no one adores
Be careful because I'm watching you
Look what you're missing
Without danger everything is flaccid
Every love has its pirate
love and hate
Still it's worth it
It's like checkmate
Every love has its pirate
Love, love, pirate
Love, love, love

Flasque makes sense, if I use the translation of "flaccid" - I didn't know that English word before, but seems it means "without energy".

It also could be "flaque"  ? (puddle )

Like something very small compared to the sea ?

Yet again another song that I think will be very relatable, for me at least it's another song that I can just feel. From just the few lyrics we have at the moment there seems to be a lot of depth behind those words and I also love the gentleness of it. Might just be me but the start of the snippet reminds me of Feels Like Fire, maybe just a tad slower.

There are too many "tch" sounds for my liking in this snippet, it doesn't please my ears. And it sounds a bit flat - maybe because there's not really any drums/percussion ... but I could imagine that the song takes off somewhat more, I miss that in this snippet. Not among my faves for now, but interesting topic, can't wait to hear the lyrics, and I'm curious to hear what else he did with the sound for the full version.

I wonder if he sings it as the “pirate” or the “treasure”. I think both can be applicable - to anyone, not just him.

From the lyrics we can hear in the snippet and the ones he quotes here I'd say he's the pirate: "Every love has its pirate, you the love and me your pirate".

Although my first thought was "Doesn't he normally see himself as the treasure?! Thank god that you found me" etc :D

I absolutely love the explanation for this song!!

The idea of writing a love song for people who are not in love at the moment, to tell them that they are still loveable and like a hidden treasure?! That's wonderful.

Agree, the topic is really intriguing!

It could be flaccid, but at the risk of going to the NC, I'm compelled to note that the common usage of the word these days is to describe...  umm .. when a man... well, the words soft and floppy come to mind...

 And Mika will know this!

So hard to figure the lyrics out

Thank you @carafon :punk:

I hear "flat" and it rimes with pirate so I would vote for flat :wink2:

I think it's   "tout est flate"

I hear that too , but the problem is that this word doesn't exist in French

It only exists as a conjugation of the verb "flatter" :

For example : "je flatte, il flatte .....and so on "

But "c'est flatte " has no sense ........ unless it's a Quebec expression :teehee:

Maybe it's a Mika-ism? He said it's his version of French on the album.

Yes, it makes sense in Mika's language 😜

Everything is flat. Like a sea with no wind.

That's probably the song that surprised me the most. When I heard the snippet, I thought "well, It's... nice", not less, but not more, but listening to it in full, I absolutely love that song now. It's very sweet !

AMOUR PIRATE

I have to admit that I expected much more from this song because the idea was cool.

But .....honestly , as a French speaking person I feel like the "ique" rimes are quite weak .

And they even had to finish a line with an English word to complete the "at" ones.

I can't blame Mika because he's not French , but I'm quite disappointed that Doriand didn't find a better way for the concept as it seems that it was his idea :dunno:

Btw I think it was good that he wrote some songs with Carla De Coignac . I love very much all the songs she worked on
