"Films in Hollywood"... while we're still waiting for the Spanish Q&A and for them to fix the countries list in the singalong contest. Ok the latter isn't Mika's personal responsibility, but when things don't get done properly, it *might* be a sign that too much tries to get done at once? :dunno:  But I guess that's just how Mika is, going from one extreme to another. No new album for 4 years, and then not only a new album but about a million other projects at the same time. I hope he doesn't forget the English album over all that.

Rugby World Cup France 2023 is honored to announce that internationally renowned singer Mika will be part of this celebration, with a unique 5-minute performance during pre-match entertainment.

Mika will be joined on stage by the choir of the Maîtrise Populaire de l’Opéra-Comique. Together, they will perform a colorful mix of Mika's best-known songs, rearranged for the occasion, in order to share a musical journey with the spectators.

However, it's no longer a mix of Mika's songs.  I guess he changed his mind after he and others wrote "C'est la vie." I remember him saying that it was the last song (or one of the last) written for the French album.

It will be a medley of his greatest hits (ex We Are Golden). He will sing it with children.

I'm anticipating... the MEDLEY would be including We Are Golden, Grace Kelly, Relax, C'est La Vie and Boum Boum Boum or Elle Me Dit....

His performance is 4 minutes 30 seconds TOO SHORT !!!!

Finale de la Coupe du monde 2023 -

Mika : "Le show d'avant-match ?

On a juste tellement hâte.

2023 World Cup Final -

Mika: “The pre-match show? It’s a huge challenge!”

In full rehearsal at the Paris Opera before his show at the Stade de France, Mika gave us an interview to discuss the performance he will perform just before the World Cup final, between New Zealand and Africa of the South this Saturday evening at 9 p.m. The artist will notably be on March 25, 2024 at the Accor Arena in Paris.

How do you feel before this show at the Stade de France in front of 80,000 people? And when you're an international star, do you still have stage fright?

Of course ! I am very aware that here I am in a context which is neither a festival nor a concert. The priority of the evening is the match. A great match with athletes who have dedicated their entire lives to get there, in a stadium with fans from all over the world. I don't see it as pressure but rather as a challenge, for me and everyone I work with. How can we create a moment of magic and color and a universal message of love just before the national anthem and the match? We're just so excited.

This must require careful organization.

What's stimulating is that until the last minute you have to change, modify and adapt to constraints because you don't have to touch the pitch, set up and dismantle the stage in a few minutes and manage 100 children. It's not like a normal show, for example the one I had the chance to do in the final of the Top 14 in 2018. We are constantly adapting, even today, so that it is the best before- possible match. I hope the energy in the stadium is warm, generous and will have a lot of love before the big battle begins. We want to amplify the atmosphere even more. It is fundamental that it is a flash of energy and colors.

Can you tell us how the pre-match show will work?

The show will last exactly 4 minutes and 45 seconds. It is a medley of five of my songs, with the participation of the melee of choirs, these children of national education and popular mastery. These are arrangements of my songs with the children's choir. There are some who play instruments, they have a lot of hidden talents. There are brass instruments, wind instruments, violinists, singers and dancers. I won't hide from you that it's an immense challenge for the children and they work incredibly hard. The smallest is 10 years old and the oldest is 17 years old.

You also worked a lot on the choir mix. The project initially experienced outrage from supporters and then found a second wind, in which you participated.

It was an ambitious initiative that survived despite many changes and constraints. The most important thing was not to give up, we couldn't! It is something beautiful and necessary. Rugby fans spoke out, we took a little break because we discovered that the anthems were not effective enough. We had to explain to the children that it wasn't the right effect but that we were going to rework it. It's part of the job and you're going to learn a big lesson. So, the children got fully involved and came to work at 8am. Few people slept for a few days but we couldn't stop this project. We had to live up to the expectations of the players, the fans, the federations, because the anthems are sacred. An anthem should be intense and moving. The challenge we had was that we had to do a lot of things in a very short time, around 3 and a half days (laughs)

What place does rugby have in your life?

I grew up surrounded by it. I have a lot of friends who play it. The first part of my childhood was in Paris but then I moved to London. I started singing very young, I became a rugby fan again, and the Top 14 showed me that the atmosphere of rugby is totally different from football. Then when I got older, I spent evenings and evenings in pubs surrounded by my friends during the matches.

Do you have a memorable memory with this sport?

I remember playing rugby as a child at St Philip's School in London. I wasn't that good at rugby but my brother was fabulous. I remember my first experience in rugby, there was the mud baptism, where the new player is completely covered in mud. I was so happy about that moment, it was the first time in my life that I went on the bus and then home, completely covered in mud (laughs). My mother shouting at me and I had a big smile. I remember that in this sport you can come home completely dirty and no one can scold you!

What do you think about this World Cup final from a sporting point of view?

We are ready and we are going to witness a final, I wouldn't say historic because I don't like that term, but which will be very, very intense. What is surprising is how we arrived at this shock. Even though we know that South Africa is a formidable team, a major nation and one of the most important in rugby, the match against England was surprising. I saw England or France reaching the final. And at the end, we are treated to a fight between two monsters of this sport.

Do you have a prediction for the final?

It's impossible ! You have to ask the gods. And even they argue among themselves to predict the outcome.

Did you have a preference between the XV of France and England?

I was a little torn but we have been working with the children for months now. They are all for France, all surrounded by France Rugby and the spirit of the Blues. So I was more on the French side.

Are any rugby-related projects in the pipeline?

Yes, it’s my second project and so as they say, there’s never two without three. You know, I'm someone who doesn't expect anything and who is always surprised by what happens and that's how I can have fun, I have to let life evolve.

Fantastic show! :lustslow: And I absolutely LOVE the glitterball-suit! And the flying piano was back! :fangurl: Positively surprised by German TV - they talked over the beginning of his show, but then they announced him as "world star Mika" and kept their mouths shut for the rest of his gig. Very good. :thumb_yello:
