I booked an airbnb in Brooklyn from the 4th to the 5th, so i guess I'm in! Whether I'll be coming from Boston or Philadelphia & what time on the 4th remains to be seen.

If we really wanna take a boat ride & don't have enough for a private tour the Staten Island Ferry is free & runs 24/7...

Today the Staten Island Ferry provides 22 million people a year (70,000 passengers a day not including weekend days) with ferry service between St. George on Staten Island and Whitehall Street in lower Manhattan. The Staten Island Ferry is run by the City of New York for one pragmatic reason: To transport Staten Islanders to and from Manhattan. Yet, the 5-mile, 25-minute ride also provides a majestic view of New York Harbor and a no-hassle, even romantic, boat ride, for free! One guide book calls it "One of the world's greatest (and shortest) water voyages." From the deck of the ferry you will have a perfect view of The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. You'll see the skyscrapers and bridges of Lower Manhattan receding as you pull away and coming into focus again as you return.

The trouble with the Staten Island Ferry is that it's really used for commuters, so it is jam-packed during rush hour -- which they consider to be between 3:30 to 7:30 pm, which I think is when we'd be considering to ride it.

We obviously don't HAVE to do the boat ride... I was just trying to keep the MFC Tour Boat energy going! LOL

For dinner, I was looking at a couple of places, not all of them in the same part of Brooklyn.  It seems to me that the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, where the gig is and where many of us will be staying, is not really that great a spot for hotels or restaurants. There are a lot of fast-food places, like Burger King or Subway, or pizza places... but if we want a place were maybe 20 or so of us can hang out for a few hours, it's more of a challenge.

But anyhow here are a few I found that seem to be somewhat decent. I need to make some calls to find out how accommodating they would be for our group. I'm trying to find inexpensive places, but it IS New York City, so prices are higher than we'd like them to be.

I haven't been looking in Manhattan, since it's so much further away, but if you think you'd all prefer that, lmk.

I'm still looking, and open to any alternative ideas.

Maybe it just wasn't meant to be with the MFC Tour Boat in New York? :dunno_grin:If we don't have enough people, we do what @Sivan suggested: We talk to people in NY and convince them to do a boat tour with us so that we have enough people for a MFC tour boat. :teehee::lol3:

I'm trying not to go too fancy. I think the pizza place and pub place that serves burgers are just average, the other two are maybe a bit fancier. But I'm trying to find a place that has space for a larger group, and also one that stays open a bit later -- some places close as early as 8:30!

From what I can see most of the places right near the venue are fast food joints -- there's a Burger King, a Subway, a KFC, a Domino's, an IHOP... Or else they are places that don't look very big, or very nice. Nowhere that we could hang out for a while and possibly have a drink or two. If we go a bit further out, or in to midtown Manhattan I guess we'll have more options. :dunno:

There used to be a few places right in Times Square that would be good -- hopefully they've survived the pandemic and are still open! I'll check.

And I'm sure that we can get some Mika music played for us if we find the right spot -- Ideally some place could seat us in separate room or at least at a big table in a corner.

Lol I know, I’m just picky and wary of trying different things. Wherever you pick I’m sure I’ll find something tasty.

8:30? In NYC?!

Not surprised you aren’t finding much in the area. While looking for somewhere to have breakfast I noticed the venue (& my Airbnb) are near “Little Caribbean” so there’s a ton of Caribbean restaurants in the area. Most of them seem way too small and not right for our purposes.

If we do go to a place in Manhattan perhaps those of us who need to return to Brooklyn could share a LyftXL or take the subway together.

Yay Mika!

That's a new one - the MFC subway car. :biggrin2:

Yes we'll stick together, don't fancy people wandering off by themselves at night in NY.

I don't mind meeting/eating in Manhattan or Brooklyn, I've still to sort out accommodation so will work around what's decided. :original:

These have good reviews for large group dining, might be options?

I guess the best time would probably be late afternoon or evening, as those who were in Boston have to arrive in New York first. 😅

I am looking forward to meeting everyone!

I’m flying into New York on April 2 but I’m staying in New York City April 2 and April 3 and then I’m staying in Brooklyn April 4-6 flying back to Houston 9:50 AM April 6

Hey @MaureenG and all -- You really need to check the forum for yourself. There are just too many things going on right now and too many people for me to remember to send out individual notices, sorry. Just keep checking here and trust that all the info will be posted once arrangements are made! :)

Thanks, Andrea. Carmine's was on my list, actually. Also, someone suggested Bowlero, which is near Times Square as well.

Does anyone fancy bowling a bit while eating? Or shall we just go for a dinner? (Personally, that's my preference, but I'm flexible!)

I've also looked at this place:

https://www.timessquarenyc.org/locations/gleasons-tavern

A couple other places I had thought about have closed permanently due to the pandemic :(

I'm making more calls today and will look at your suggestions above, will hopefully finalize something by mid-week. It's getting so close! :excite:

Once you write into a thread you are subscribed to it and you can even chose to get the notifications into your mailbox. Apart from that you can see the notifications on MFC itself or check all activities so you don't miss anything.

I love bowling! Restaurants by Prospect Park look great in fact my aunt and uncle before they moved to floral Park New York they had their apartment on 12th St. by Prospect Park. I want to walk by their old apartment I have the address I used to go there and visit when I was little.  There’s a lot a little restaurants and cafés over by where they used to live and I looked it up yesterday. Looking forward to us getting together.

There’s also the yellow water taxi boat ride I went on in 2009 with my uncle.

At this point, there doesn't look like there will be more than 20 of us, so that should help make things easier.

I'm waiting on calls back from a few places that don't open until later in the afternoon, so I'll keep you all posted!

While I'm waiting for one more call back, I wanted to remember to say that I am arriving in NYC around noon on April 4. My train is supposed to arrive in Penn Station at 12:12 p.m., but I'm sure it will be closer to 12:30. It will probably take me at least a half hour to get to my hotel from there and after that... well, I'll be trying to find you all! It is really happening, isn't it? :excite:
