UNA PERSONA (A)MIKA Il Mika personaggio televisivo o artista da palcoscenico non è molto diverso nel privato e come sei anni fa, come racconta l’Ufficio festival di Uj, diretto da Annika Larsson, si è confermato una persona carinissima. Col suo entourage o la crew di Uj, si è dimostrato gentile ed educatissimo con tutti. «Ha trasmepositività a tutti - racconta Cristina dell’Ufficio festival – e molto disponibile col suo staff con cui ha poi voluto cenare». UN GUARDAROBA DI SOGNI Arrivato all’Arena, il primo step è stato prendere visione del vasto guardaroba da cui attingere per la serata. Una collezione di vestiti e costumi molti dei quali di realizzazione artigianale italiana. Presa visione della colorata collezione, il suo occhio è subito caduto sul vestito rosa col grande fiore in tinta all’occhiello. «Questo è l’abito perfetto per Umbria Jazz», ha detto. Quando avevo sette anni mi mettevo da solo al pianoforte: lì non c’erano le mie sorelle o mia madre e sentivo che potevo costruirmi il mio mondo. Mi piace pensare che forse già da quei primi momenti avevo cominciato a intuire che poteva esserci una possibilità, che quel semplice mettermi a suonare al pianoforte avrebbe potuto un giorno, forse, cambiare la mia vita. Oh yes, the esthetics and silhouettes of/in the show are amazing. I also feel that the light programming is much more in tune with what is Mika doing on stage. It’s both esthetically chaotic as it is pleasing to look at. The huge flowers and the tiger head, I mean WHAT!? Not to mention the blooming piano, the blooming suits... It’s both absurd as it is mind blowing. I truly have no other words to describe it. Growing up in a multicultural household you quickly realize that culture and language is not confined to boundaries of space and time, so why should you confine or limit yourself? I only realized this when I became a fan - and I feel much more free because of it. Dico solo che è l’ultima tappa italiana del tour, per cui farò sicuramente qualcosa di speciale. Preparatevi ad essere sorpresi!» Cosa l’ha spinta a creare dei concerti su misura per questa tournée? «Ho pensato di costruire degli show differenziati per ognuna delle sei date italiane del World Tour perché credo fortemente che la magia dei miei concerti risieda anche nell’energia del pubblico, che ogni volta si sprigiona in modi e forme diverse». “May your head always bloom” è lo slogan del tour, qual è il significato? «L’ho scelto perché credo che sia l’augurio più bello che si possa fare. L’augurio di fiorire in creatività, arte, forza e libertà, di trovare il coraggio di essere veramente se stessi. È a partire da questo messaggio che ho trovato l’ispirazione per il nuovo tour ed è questo l’augurio che desidero fare al mio pubblico». Nella scaletta troveranno spazio recenti e vecchi successi che hanno fatto ballare e cantare per anni. Qual è la canzone che le dà ancora una forte emozione cantare? «Mi ritengo molto fortunato perché ogni canzone a modo suo è capace di suscitarmi forti emozioni. Ci sono canzoni più spensierate e altre più profonde, ma ognuna tocca una corda diversa del mio cuore e mi riporta ad un preciso momento della mia vita». Il concerto ai Laghi di Fusine sarà un appuntamento immersivo in uno scenario di montagna. «Non vedo l’ora di esibirmi al No Borders Music Festival. Amo stare a contatto con la natura, mi aiuta a ritrovare un contatto profondo con me stesso e con gli altri, a meditare, a cercare ispirazione. Cantare immergendomi nella natura, respirando l’aria di montagna e avendo negli occhi la bellezza dei laghi di Fusine sarà un’esperienza unica e rigenerante». Sul palco anche un pianoforte magico con le zampe di leone e una suggestiva testa di tigre. Come mai ha scelto di portare in scena questi due animali? «Per questo tour ho deciso di portare sul palco uno show che potesse riflettere a pieno l’anima del mio ultimo album, un evento pieno di grinta, spettacolo e melodia, dove la musica prende posizione centrale. La scelta di portare in scena degli elementi animaleschi ha l’obiettivo di stupire, provocare e creare un ambiente unico, un’atmosfera che ricordi quella di un circo Barnum moderno, con effetti magici e installazioni spettacolari». A proposito di animali, i suoi due cani Melachi e Amira la seguono durante i tour? «Purtroppo no, perché ormai hanno entrambi diversi anni e portarli con me adesso diventa impegnativo». I sessanta abiti che indossa in tournée sono tutti disegnati da lei e realizzati da artigiani e artisti italiani. Cosa vuole trasmettere? «Vestiti, musica, oggetti di scena… per questo tour tutto è stato studiato nel dettaglio per dare vita ad una sorta di festa poetica. Credo fortemente che suono e immagine debbano fondersi, trovare un’armonia per trasmettere un messaggio efficace. Per creare tutta la magia che volevo portare sul palco ho deciso di fare un viaggio, alla ricerca di artisti e atelier che potessero aiutarmi a realizzare gli abiti di scena. È stato un viaggio meraviglioso, dal nord al sud Italia, che mi ha permesso di indossare un abito firmato Pierpaolo Piccioli e una collezione di 60 capi disegnati da me stesso. Sono molto fiero del lavoro fatto». Cosa si porta a casa dai concerti? «Mi porto l’amore e l’energia che mi trasmette il pubblico. È uno scambio di emozioni, di sensazioni e di energia, che ogni volta si realizza in maniera differente, proprio perché il pubblico varia ed è sempre capace di sorprendermi». Come si è avvicinato alla musica? «Avevo cinque anni e vivevo a Parigi. Mia mamma insistette affinché io e le mie sorelle prendessimo lezioni di pianoforte. Conobbi le due insegnanti, due signore sulla sessantina arrivate in Francia dall’Est Europa che mi fecero appassionare di questo fantastico strumento e da quel momento non lo abbandonai più». Come nasce una canzone? «Le mie canzoni nascono da quello che vivo. Fin da quando ero piccolo la musica e il pianoforte sono stati i mezzi che mi hanno permesso di esprimermi, di dare voce ai miei pensieri e alle mie sensazioni. La mia musica è il riflesso di ciò che sento e da ciò che mi circonda». Come si è trovato nel ruolo di giudice di X Factor, un ruolo che ha anche l’ingrato compito di bocciare e dare delusioni? «Bene, mi sono molto divertito durante tutte le edizioni in cui sono stato giudice. È un ruolo ingrato sì, ma dobbiamo ricordarci che tutti siamo costantemente sotto giudizio. He recently said in an interview that he has (had) writer’s block. I suspect him being incredibly busy both last year and this year has helped him to get out of it. I’m sure it has helped his creative process, especially writing the score for Zodi et Tehu, but to actually create requires a different energy… and also a bit of peace of mind. Sure, I agree, but what I meant is that he might not be able to relate much anymore to what he lived through 2 or 3 years ago when it's finally time to promote the album, because he's constantly collecting new experiences, keeps learning and growing etc. - but maybe that's just my lack of imagination that he might be creating something timeless, which he might have written about the pandemic (for example) but it can be applied to many other things as well. Of course in that case he can wait 5 more years to release the album. (please not THAT long!! ) I'm just wondering about the songs he has teased, like the ones he wrote with Amy - will we ever get to hear them? Are they still relevant to him now? Because if not, maybe it would indeed make sense to release a few songs here and there, like Mika said last year (tho he didn't seem too convinced of that concept) - not instead of an album, but while we're waiting for one, so those beautiful songs don't get lost if he decides that they won't go on the album. And because it'd make the waiting easier, like Yoyo and Who's gonna love me now and Feels like Fire and Keep it Simple... well, that's already quite a few in fact - I guess if he had just released Sweetie Banana at the beginning of the summer tour, or at least sang it (or another new song) at some of the gigs, I might not be that impatient now. Or maybe I would... it's mostly the feeling that he's either not telling the truth about the progress or that he's holding something back that is there, and I wonder why. Concerning these words, I suppose the interview was recorded during the last few weeks so he was meaning the upcoming summer festivals. I think he will take a little break from the concerts, after this busy schedule. He needs to. I care more about his health than about having more gigs in the autumn. Then it wouldn't have much sense to announce a new tour without any album released. Maybe he will just do some spot shows or private gigs or TV appearances. He's certainly planning some TV stuff so I suppose we will get more details in the next few months Concerning his postponing the albums release: It's true that he said to have many songs ready (in the last 2 years he's been teasing us ) but this doesn't mean that they were good enough to be released. I remember he said last year, during the American tour, that he presented his songs to his record company. Maybe they weren't approved by them and he had to write them all over again. Who knows. Same with the French album. He's also a perfectionist and he will release the albums only when he will be actually convinced about his work. But every singer or performer needs a break after a tour, no matter if it's a festival or an album promo tour.
