I loved the song from when we first heard it, but also love how it evolves now over time. I think it's a version he sung at NRJ awards (or very similar) with 100 Voices of Gospel. I am happy he said recently that he would like to record again new versions of his songs after the tour - with arrangements evolving through the tour. Oh yes, I want it too!!!! He sang this intro for the L'Invit Life concert as well. I think he might have even taken the background track from that recording. Not 100% sure though as some of it sounds slightly different like I can't hear Clément's voice in this one. Maybe he just mixed it a bit differently. Je me suis convaincu, là, que je n’avais pas peur de déclarer mes amours. Aux États-Unis par exemple, j’ai une image alternative, même si les salles se remplissent en quelques minutes. En France, la résonance est plus populaire. J’aime beaucoup la chanson et la pop d’ici. Y avait-il une manière de mélanger ma pop anglo-saxonne à la langue française, de jouer avec l’érosion de la frontière entre ces deux cultures ? Un défi passionnant : je ne voulais plus sortir du studio ! Une chanson-déclic ? Tout est parti de « Moi, Andy et Paris » : une chanson contant une grande dispute avec mon conjoint avec qui je suis depuis longtemps et avec qui je suis toujours, tout va bien merci ! On ne s’est pas parlé pendant quelques semaines, je voulais faire quelque chose avec cette énergie étrange et instinctivement, j’ai écrit en français, langue qu’il ne comprendrait pas ! En quoi vous sentez-vous français ? Dans ma connaissance de la culture française, dans ses différences. La diversité des régions à l’identité affirmée, mais aussi un ciment républicain très fort. Je l’ai écrite dix mois avant sa disparition et je ne voulais pas une chanson-hommage, genre que je n’aime pas, mais plutôt prendre une facette de quelqu’un et construire une chanson autour. Birkin représente un esprit avant tout : celui d’aimer librement, aimer intensément et charnellement autant que pudiquement et poétiquement. Elle a toujours été dans ces beaux contrastes. Un vrai remède à la morosité, idéal en cette période de fêtes. QUE TA TÊTE FLEURISSE TOUJOURS: POURQUOI UN TITRE D’ALBUM AUSSI SURPRENANT? A 7 ans, j’ai eu des problèmes de harcèlement à l’école. Du coup, je ne lisais plus, je n’écrivais plus, j’ai arrêté de parler pendant neuf mois… A tel point que j’ai été viré de l’établissement. Ma mère m’a alors dit: «OK, si tu ne vas pas à l’école, tu iras au parc pour dessiner et tu vas apprendre à chanter et à jouer du piano à la maison. » Quand elle est partie, en 2021, j’ai compris que son message était: «Tant que ta tête fleurit, que tu es créatif, alors tout ira bien. » Je défendrai toujours l’idée que l’imaginaire et la musique peuvent changer la vie des gens. COMMENT DÉFINISSEZ-VOUS CE DISQUE? Il est fondamentalement pop dans l’esprit, coloré, décalé, mélodique, alternatif. Il n’est pas du tout «variétés », ni lisse, mais accessible. Il comporte autant un côté charnel que des câlins et des cœurs. Faire un album est un processus très sérieux et, en même temps, furieusement amusant. J’aborde des sujets profonds, mais sur une musique très dansante. Pour moi, c’est une sorte de résistance douce et poétique, un désir de métaboliser la vie, la tristesse, le vieillissement, pour les métamorphoser en quelque chose d’autre. Quand on y arrive, on se sent un peu mieux. Je prends mes peurs et je les transforme en chansons, en couleurs, en formes, comme un plasticien. SI UN TERME VOUS DÉFINIT, C’EST BIEN LA JOIE, NON? Plutôt la curiosité. Je ne suis pas que joyeux, mais surtout curieux. Je sens aussi tout le temps que l’amour n’est jamais très loin de nous. L’autre jour, avec ma sœur, on faisait du sport dans un parc. Il y avait des vieilles dames et des vieux messieurs, sur des bancs, qui commentaient nos exercices! Je me suis avancé en esquissant une révérence et je leur ai dit: «Bon après-midi à vous, le spectacle commence maintenant. Merci. » Et là, il s’est passé quelque chose, certains ont applaudi. Je m’en fiche du sport, ce qui reste dans ma tête, c’est d’avoir ressenti un peu d’amour à ce moment-là. FAITES-VOUS CE MÉTIER POUR ÊTRE AIMÉ? Pas du tout. Si c’est ce que l’on recherche, je pense que l’on ne peut pas être dans sa propre vérité. Quand je parle d’amour, c’est une sorte de lumière plus universelle que personnelle, liée à une philosophie humaniste. LE TITRE C’EST LA VIE REND HOMMAGE À VOTRE MAMAN? Il s’agit d’un hommage à la vie et aux souvenirs qu’elle nous a laissés et qui continuent en nous. Ce n’est pas un hasard si c’est la dernière chanson que j’ai composée, alors que l’album était terminé. Ce titre montre la démarche que j’ai eue et pourquoi j’ai conçu cet album. Non pas qu’il soit entièrement dédié à ma mère. Je reconnais une légèreté d’esprit qui s’entend dans les morceaux et qui me plaît énormément. Je ne me pose pas la question de savoir si les gens vont aimer ou non. Quand j’évoque ma vie personnelle, c’est aussi sans complexe. Je ne sais pas vraiment ce qui s’est passé, mais je ressens une plus grande liberté par rapport à mon album précédent, y compris dans ma vie en général. Je prends beaucoup plus de plaisir dans tous les domaines. Je me sens libéré. PEUT-ÊTRE CELA EST-IL LIÉ AU FAIT D’AVOIR EU 40 ANS? C’est drôle car, il y a quelques années, je m’étais dit que si, à 40 ans, j’arrivais à prendre des risques, à avoir de nouveaux projets, à continuer la musique et à en être fier, alors ça serait bon signe. C’était mon ambition et mon défi. Dans ce métier, il n’est pas donné à tous de devenir quadragénaire tout en gardant cette candeur et cette joie. Il faut jouer comme un enfant et réagir comme un adulte. POUVEZ-VOUS NOUS PARLER DE LA GENÈSE DE VOTRE CHANSON BOUGEZ? L’idée est née parce que Valérie Lemercier, qui fait secrètement des voix sur mon titre Jane Birkin, en avait assez d’entendre à la radio, chaque fois que l’on nous vend de la malbouffe, ce slogan: «Pour votre santé, bougez plus! » Elle m’a invité à écrire sur cette absurdité. Le soir même, je suis allé à un concert où je me suis ennuyé. Les premiers mots me sont venus et je me suis dit que ma copine était géniale. Elle avait raison et j’ai écrit la chanson. Je l’adore, c’est vraiment mon amie. Elle me fait rire, elle est aussi fun que sérieuse. C’est une femme intelligente qui prend des risques comme si elle avait 19 ans. QUAND AVEZ-VOUS ÉCRIT JANE BIRKIN? Bien avant sa disparition et ça a été très instinctif. J’avais vu l’un de ses concerts symphoniques, c’était tellement beau! Elle avait changé physiquement, mais elle communiquait la même lumière. Birkin, c’est une âme, elle a toujours été une référence pour moi, peut-être parce qu’elle avait, elle aussi, ce côté anglo-français, mais pas seulement… Elle était intello et surtout antisnob. Je ne suis pas du tout snob, je déteste ça ! POURQUOI UN ALBUM ENTIÈREMENT EN FRANÇAIS? Je voulais le faire depuis très longtemps. La France, c’est une grande partie de mon cœur. Je ne peux pas imaginer ma vie sans elle. Je me suis construit avec différentes identités culturelles et c’est très bien ainsi. Je recommence à avoir des projets en Angleterre, alors que j’avais arrêté d’y aller, car j’en avais ras-le-bol. Tout en sachant que, un jour, je trouverais ma façon de faire la paix avec ce pays, qui a été celui de mon enfance, de ma vie scolaire, de mon éducation… Je vais y donner de nombreux concerts, je termine également un disque en anglais, qui sortira l’année prochaine, y compris en France. SUR UN ALBUM, VOUS ÊTES PARTOUT… Je m’investis globalement, dans les photos, les costumes, les clips… Et j’ai ouvert mon propre atelier. J’en suis le directeur artistique. J’avais demandé à des marques de créer des costumes avec des fleurs géantes pour évoquer cette idée de renaissance. Mais elles ont refusé, alors j’ai décidé de les fabriquer avec des potes. Ainsi, personne n’est là pour nous dire non. J’adore la mode mais, quand on a une idée en tête, on doit avoir la possibilité de la réaliser, à l’instar de nos icônes qui jouaient avec les fringues et racontaient des histoires avec. Mick Jagger allait chez de petits couturiers de Naples ou de New York et s’amusait comme un fou. Aujourd’hui, les artistes ont perdu ça. C’est bien, de temps en temps, d’être habillé par des marques, c’est beau, mais ça n’est pas tout. On a le droit de porter un vêtement imparfait et de s’exprimer! LA TOURNÉE DÉBUTE EN MARS 2024. IMPATIENT? Oui. Avant, je pensais davantage au matériel, aux décors. Désormais, je conçois également des concerts qui sont vraiment de l’énergie pure. Je la provoque, mais on la crée avec le public. He says at the beginning that he's awkward in conversations, that it makes him anxious to meet stars, and that when someone acts aggressive on the street or in the supermarket he doesn't know how to deal with it and wants to become invisible , but that as soon as he's on a stage, he's not afraid. He talks about his Dad beig stuck in Kuwait and when they had to flee Paris that his Mum was pregnant with Fortuné. Then he talks abot his abusive teacher and that he wanted to become invisible. They say that then he had lots of jobs in music and was traveling through Europe, but when he was 15 his voice changed and he lost all his jobs. He tried to get in to several music conservatories but was rejected everywhere. Then his parents signed him up for the London school of Economics, and he says how he was sure that if he stayed there, he'd never work in music again. And so he went to the Royal College of music and waited for their boss until late in the evening, like for a celebrity, and begged him to give him another chance for an audition. He said, you have one month. Then he talks a bit about his first album, how it allowed him to talk about things that he's too scared to talk about in everyday life, about what cooking means to him, and about writing in French, nothing new there. But I loved hearing all those little details about things we already know, like how he went after the car of that Royal College of Music guy, or that his Mum was pregnant when they left Paris. And that he still finds himself awkward in conversations... he has become so good at it, like, look how eloquent he was at this anti bullying event! Well ok maybe that falls under the category of "stage" - I hope he'll find this courage that he has on stage also in his everyday life... he has the abilities, it's just the trust in himself that's missing, imo. Originaire de Cahors où elle a passé son enfance et fait ses premières scènes, la chanteuse Carla de Coignac a fait un joli bonhomme de chemin. Aujourd’hui, elle signe pas moins de 6 chansons du dernier album de Mika, intitulé « Que ta tête fleurisse toujours » et qui est sorti le 1er décembre 2023. La chanteuse de Cahors collabore avec plusieurs artistes Carla de Coignac s’est fait connaître en arrivant en finale de la 13e saison de La Nouvelle Star en 2017. Depuis, elle poursuit son chemin dans la chanson en tant qu’interprète, mais aussi auteure et compositrice. Elle a signé son premier EP en 2021, avec cinq titres intimistes dans lesquels elle parle de sa vie et de ses émotions. Elle écrit également pour les autres, notamment pour Louane. I understood that he says that for a long time he had wanted to record an album in French since ha has a special relationship with France and he finally decided to go ahead with the project, not caring about the potential risks. Then the interviewer suggests that he could put out an album in Italian as well. Mika doesn't actually reply to this ( in other interviews he has said that singing in Italian is not so simple for him) but I think answers that his new album has aroused interest in various countries, for example Japan, but not so much in Italy; he comments that even the UK has shown greater interest ( in the new album?) than Italy, which shares a border with France. I didn't listen to the RFM interview yet, but in another French one he was talking about the tour getting interest in Japan, UK and other countries, but not so much in Italy, and he can't explain why.
