I think you might be on to something Do you know, it's never bothered me that it has lover etc through it. I just kind of figured it was inspired by his family and the rest was poetic licence. I've written songs like that, starting out with a feeling about someone or something etc and taken it far beyond what happened in reality for the sake of telling a good story. He IS a storyteller, as he keeps reminding us. I always thought of it like "two" people. One person being his lover and the she in the song representing all the women in his family/his seven mothers. She’s an instant martyr, a drama queen. She gets up like a star, cries like she used to. Walking around with this air of a queen, she doesn’t know what she wants, knows how to use you. It's like he's talking about this person "she" with (or atleast to) his lover/sugar/darling/etc. He could just be saying/thinking it to himself. But in a way it is still meant to be to his lover. Oh, where are the stars up in the sky? Is there no hope for you and I, my darling? I, am so intolorebly blue, at the thought of leaving you, my darling. Honeypie. Oo ooo It’s in her eyes. Sugar. Gonna get you down. Oo ooo It’s no surprise. Lover. Come around. To put it short, she disapprove of (his) darling. She’s the cream of the crop, she’s the cropper of the cream. She’s the time of your life, one in a million. Walking around with this air of a queen. She doesn’t know what she wants, knows how to use you now. Oh, where are the stars up in the sky when you need them? When you need them. He wants her to approve/wants to be with his darling without all this "trouble" (in lack of a better word.) I never expected him to go through with it, although I think it would be a lovely idea.
