Mika Back To His Curly Ways

Singer Gives Up On Being Straight

Sexually ambiguous pop star Mika popped into MTV Europe’s music awards last night sporting his traditional curls.

We suppose he didn’t dig his straight sophistication.

The ‘Grace Kelly” singer did, however, grace photogs with three different outfits.

No doubt his stylist had a hard time relaxing and taking it easy.

"Other notable performances came from Mika, Foo Fighters and Pete Doherty, ..."

"Mika gave a rousing performance but then left early."

"But Mika was spotted leaving the event through the back door before

it had finished - he had been complaining of a sore throat."

Mika at the MTV Europe Music Awards

I don’t get Mika. I don’t get his music, I don’t get him in interviews,

I don’t get his dated ‘showman’ posturing,

his constant mugging to camera or his self-satisfied manner.

That’s all, of course, fine: I don’t have to like him.

But what really bothers me is that I don’t get is why he doesn’t look better.

He’s got all the right ingredients: good colouring,

cheekbones which could cut butter,

great hair and a long-limbed skinny body which should look good in nearly everything.

He also seems to be willing to wear most things and can carry them off with aplomb.

In fact I’d go so far as to say with panache. I would, I’d say panache!

This outfit which he wore to last night’s MTV Europe Music Awards just doesn’t work.

The T-shirt is too small and annoyingly cute.

The jacket is ok. It’s a good colour,

but if you’re going to wear something that tailored and snug,

I think you should wear it with something a bit looser and free-flowing than those tight jeans.

I appreciate the thought behind the brooch,

which according to Mika cost $6.5 million (they saw you coming, Mika)

but it’s the wrong brooch on the wrong jacket.

It's not that he looks terrible, he just should look better.

If he'd been dealt a tough genetic hand,

I wouldn't mind as much - it's just I think he could look brilliant and doesn't.

As John Cleese said in Clockwise “It’s not the despair.

I can take the despair, it’s the hope I can’t stand.”

And then...

"An estimated 80 million European MTV viewers voted for most of the winners

of the different categories but the event was dominated by North Americans."

They're what I saw searching the world wide web.

I can't help it if there's wrong information. :sneaky2:

thx for posting, satu.

have read 1st and i am not even commenting the pete doherty thing.:sneaky2:

as for the sense of fashion, well mika's looked better than at the ema IMO(not a fan of those too made up curls and the pin was funny but not my piece of cake), but he is quite a stunning looking young man. sometimes you can like more what he wears or how he makes up his hair, sometimes you can like it less, also according to your personal taste. there's no such thing as a fashion law, thx god. :mf_rosetinted:

You can! It's all your fault! :wink2:

Mixed reviews then.....some people just don't like him do they?

There is only one thing in life worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about. to borrow mr wilde's words. :mf_rosetinted:

Yes well... the reason Mika might not have looked 100% at the awards, is that he was ill! But he still looked better than anyone else, and way better than The Wino, or that Avril person!!!

Stupid swine, whoever wrote that article!!!!!

Love today, from Marilyn

Older article:

Sixty million people have cast their votes. Now Europe awaits the announcement of this year's European MTV awards. The ceremony is Thursday night in Munich, Germany. Mika, one of the top contenders in the 'solo artist' category arrived in Munich early. The Lebanese born singer is up against stiff competition from Canadians Nelly Furtado and Avril Lavigne, Barbadian-born Rihanna and American star Christina Aguilera.

The nomination is no mean feat for a newcomer. Maybe his popularity is a passing craze. Mika doesn't really care. He's come along for the ride.

Mika said, "I just want to have fun, I know there is a lot of 'who is gonna do what' on the show, but it is just more like just having fun and celebrating the fact that I have had a really good year, I am doing this for me, I am not doing this for any other reason I am doing this because I want to have fun with it, I have had an amazing year and a lot of incredible support from all around Europe and this is just something to have fun with and celebrate in the most chaotic way possible as well. "

Mica Penniman, known by his stage name Mika, beame one of the hottest artists of 2007, with his debut single 'Grace Kelly'.

Mika was born in Beirut, Lebanon. His mother is Lebanese. His father American. The family pulled up stakes and moved to Paris after Lebanon was rent by war. When Mika was nine, the family moved again, to London.

The singer is currently on tour. He's has just played The Desert Rhythm Festival, last week-end at Dubai Media City.

Mika's debut album 'Life in Cartoon Motion' brought comparisons with artists like Freddie Mercury, George Michael, Scissor Sisters, Rufus Wainwright, and Elton John.

He released his single 'Grace Kelly' as a digital download in January. Then it hit number one in the UK Singles Chart.

Eeh, there's nowt as queer as fowk - as we say here in the North of England!!

I understand how some may not get Mika's music, or his fashion choices.

BUT - I can't fathom how anyone can fail to be charmed by his personality in interviews. I just can't understand that. And most of the people I know who don't like Mika's music or image, like him more when they've seen him speak, and seen how he comes across...

But alas, it's true - some people just don't like Mika and never will, oh well let 'em get on with it then say I.

Booooooo hissssssss we don't like these reviews. Can't they just appreciate him for his originality and his upbeat-ness???

MTV or not, he is ALWAYS our No. 1.:punk:

I agree :mf_rosetinted: And, in my humble opinion, he looked great. Of course, there have been times when he looked better (maybe because i don't like orange at all), but he looked great still. Oh, and he was ill! A person never looks his/her best while suffering an illness.
