Wow, awesome FAQ. I just have one to add, if I may. Who is the girl Mika's dancing with in Love Today? She's also in Grace Kelly dancing around in that old, dusty dress.

I was curious about alot of those questions. So, it was a very interesting read. Thank you :)

my friends dont even ask me if he is or is not they just say he is! i try to tell them that it is none our business but they keep on saying it and i get so fed up with it!

I've just ignored that question. They only try to make me upset and that's too much honour for those fools. Just ignore them, so they haven't got the fun of making you furious or something.....Losers:thumbdown:

9. Is Mika gay?

Mika refuses to discuss his sexuality with the media because he considers it irrelevant, and a part of his private life that he does not feel the need to share. It has been speculated that he may be gay, but until he decides to tell the public himself, we cannot know what his sexuality is for sure.

i was reading this and i have a comment ....

as it is "a speculation" ... why do we have to write it? can we not leave it as the first sentence only? it says it all... no need for speculation in my opinion.

other then that, great job!!! :thumb_yello:

To use the "speculation" of someone's sexuality as gossip and a trivial chatter just doesn't seem right. I know it isn't going to stop but we should think before we use that subject as idle conversation.

If we leave it at just the first line, people will be like "what do you mean he doesn't feel the need to share? Five people at the gas station/in my math class/in line at Starbucks told me he was gay - how come they know?!"

I don't think it hurts to admit that many media outlets have speculated that he's gay. Like it or not, when a person takes on a career that throws them into the spotlight, media (and fan) curiosity about their personal lives is part of the package. What we're doing here is stating 1) that we don't know, and 2) that whomever is curious on that given day certainly isn't the first to wonder about Mika's orientation.

I only just saw this thread. No one told me that the FAQ's were up.

Jack, even though you're not on the MFC at the moment I'll still say that you did a very good job of editing my section, I think that I went into way too much detail and I'm glad that you made it more concise. :thumb_yello:

I still think that question 7 of the Forum FAQ should be split into two questions for clarity.

Since we've had a couple requests recently for clearer guidelines on

what is and isn't allowed, I've tried to refine or clarify some of

these points. Not sure if you want to add the info here, Jack,

or make additional Questions/Answers items.

--Hateful language, including but not limited to racist, sexist and/or bigoted speech is prohibited here.

I think that's pretty clear. No putting someone down due to their

religion, sex, race, physical impairment...

-- Personal insults or attacks are also prohibited

Again, pretty clear, right? No mocking someone because of their

appearance, or the way they speak, or the amount of time

they spend on the forum, no calling someone stupid or a moron

just because their opinion is different from yours, that sort of thing...

And no hiding behind saying it was meant as "a joke", or :mf_rosetinted: or white text! Just saying you didn't mean something as an insult doesn't make it any less of one.

-- Posts containing obscene or pornographic material will be deleted

While some may say that obscenity/pornography is subjective -- well,

I guess you'll have to live with what we mods decide. We are a fairly

liberal bunch, but there are some things that simply are inappropriate.

-- avoid swearing, explicit sexual posts, or other content that may be inappropriate

This would include posts that describe a sex act,

or strongly imply one. This

also includes the form of fanfiction known as "slash" -- which would

be sex between a celeb and a fan. As far as swearing -- well, the forum

automatically xxxx out certain words. But there are some that it

doesn't catch, and you may be asked to stop using those words by a

moderator.

I think that homophobia should be added to the list with racism, sexism, etc. Especially since a lot of homophobic hate is directed at Mika despite the fact that no one knows his sexuality.

Q. What is banning? What is an infraction?

A. If the moderators "ban" a user, that means that user will not be

able post on this forum. A temporary ban means that the user will

not be able to post for a specific period of time -- a permanent ban

is only applied if a user is persistently abusive or otherwise continuously

disregards the forum guidelines.

An infraction is a notice applied to a user's account to denote that

they have somehow violated the forum guidelines. You'll see the infraction

in the user profile, with the reason the infraction was given.

In general, we do not want to ban any members, although spammers and those who post pornography will be immediately banned.

In other situations, here are the general guidelines for issuing a ban.

1. If a user violates the forum guidelines, a moderator first sends a warning via a private message (PM).

2. If the user continues to disregard the warnings, an infraction is placed

against the account.

3. If a user receives three infractions, they will be banned from the

forum temporarily, usually for one week.

4. If, after returning from a temporary ban, a user continues their pattern of negative behavior, they may be permanently banned.

I have some questions: if a member recieves an infraction, are they notified by the mods? Is an infraction the same thing as a 'referral' (the number of which you can see on a user profile)? Freddie once said something to that effect, that a referral is a warning? (If so, I have one referral yet have for some reason have never been contacted by a mod. Should I have been contacted?)

I just have one to add, if I may. Who is the girl Mika's dancing with in Love Today? She's also in Grace Kelly dancing around in that old, dusty dress.

Actually, that's a very good question, I never found out. Unless, of course, the person doesn't want to be credited publicly?

I don't think it hurts to admit that many media outlets have speculated that he's gay. What we're doing here is stating 1) that we don't know, and 2) that whomever is curious on that given day certainly isn't the first to wonder about Mika's orientation.

I think that the line should stay. It lets people new to Mika know that speculation has been done and that it has so far lead to no conclusions and will most likely never lead to any conclusions. It removes any illusions from their mind that discussion of the topic is likely to lead them to a Eureka light bulb moment of discovery.

(But to be fair I'll add that some people who discuss the subject do so without that expectation, and enjoy the process of analysis not the outcome of analysis.)

I can say (even though I'm no mod or expert) that referrals are when someone types your username in as having referred them to the mfc.

Someone asked this in the aussie thread recently and I remember the answer.

see... if the line read "many media outlets have speculated..." then i think it is ok... right now, it just looks like we are speculating, which i don't think we are here for that. but then again, maybe it's because my 1st language is french and i understand it differently lol :roftl:

We have speculated here, and just like the media, there have been no conclusions drawn. I think it's important that newbies who are curious about his sexuality know that so they understand that there is no point in bringing it up again. No one here has an answer for them because we've already gone over it a dozen or more times and come up with nothing.

If this subject isn't dealt with directly and thoroughly in the FAQ, it will just lead to continued questions.

i guess if you put it that way, then that makes sense. :wink2:

I can't really edit the FAQs any more due to post-space constraints, but I appreciate the comments that have come in so far, and intend to incorporate them into the final version of the FAQ.

I hope this version would be put up by Deano on its own page, however. I'll wait till we are official and figure out how it can be done then.

Sorry -- think maybe you weren't back yet when Jack posted... but

it is a sticky. (This sorta confirms my suspicions about how often

people really notice the stuck threads :naughty: )

Yes, you're notified if you get an infraction. A referral is when someone uses

your name as the person who referred them to the site. (IIRC, when you

register, you're asked if anyone referred you.)

Yep, that's what I'm waiting for -- that official statement. Any day now :wink2: When that finally happens, then I think we'll be able to finalize this properly.:thumb_yello:

I usually only visit my subscribed threads so no, I wouldn't notice stickies often. :bleh:

Phew! *wipes brow*

I have a question: how will the FAQ's be distributed? Will the FAQ's be included in the "welcome" PM when members join? Will it be in the Front Page News? Would it be possible to send a PM to everyone so that non-newbies also read the FAQ's? I ask because I think that the FAQ's could be a good way to send the message on what is appropriate and inappropriate pre-/post-gig behaviour and that meeting Mika in person is a bonus rather than something to be expected. (That's assuming of course that people will read the whole document.)

You can answer that question after we're official, I just wanted it thrown in before I forget.

Actually, what you've described is what I've envisioned -- I hope it's

all possible. I'd like the entire FAQ to be posted somewhere on its

own -- maybe as a sticky :naughty:

Then I'd like there to be a link to the FAQ in the welcome that all

new members get when they join.

And I'd also like a mass mailing to go to the entire membership so

that ALL members have the chance to read the FAQ -- I think that's possible.

So... once we're official... it's on the To-Do List :original:
