They know what they are.' It's sincere but it's completely different from what I've done before. Maybe at the start it will surprise people, but honestly if we don't do that in a career, what's the goal..We stay in the same place. Until Christmas I had nothing for the new album. Nothing. A lot of things happened with my family, and it was quite difficult, it was just as if life was in pause. And so I decided to start working with people who inspire me. It's a mix, there are even people I found on the internet. I found a guy whose demos I found on the internet, I went to his home and he played me his songs in his studio in his bedroom and I heard completely incredible things and now he's part of four of my songs. Interviewer: Where are you now in the new album? M: I have 7 songs that I love, and I need 12. I'm almost halfway. It's an album in English, but I said to myself, well, maybe I can put as a bonus a few songs in French. I: Is it easy to write in French? M: With a good writer, yes, it is quite easy. In my lyrics, there are always a few mistakes, but we keep them, because I make quite a lot of grammatical mistakes. I: Is there a title? M: Yes. The Origin of Love. It started because I wrote a song called The Origin of Love and there are 12 songs and the concept is that these 12 songs are love songs but it is not soppy at all, there are songs that strike, some are punk electro. I: It's more adult. M: I hate the concept of adult. I know, I know, before, everybody used to tell me 'oh, it is childish', then with the second one 'oh it is adolescent'.. I'm the one who says it, and then I regret it. I always regret it. When I made the second album, I said 'it's a little bit more adolescent', ohlala, after that they always said 'oh now he's more adolescent'. Now they say 'he's an adult, he thinks he's an adult'. No, he's still an idiot. Thank you! It's also great to hear something about the new album, just wish he'd taken to Twitter to leak a few a little factoids to us, as he said he would. It will be the first time that I sing my own french song. Last year, I was on tour until november because the second record tour lasted one year and half. We also have a lot of difficulties in my family, because my sister had a serious accident in last october. It was like if my family's life, expect for the shows i did, was on break. I started to work on february, in Montreal, with Empire of the Sun, an australian group which was in Montreal to work on "Le Cirque du Soleil" show. I went there without know what to do, I was saying to myself "what am i doing here ? I don't even know what I want to do". Guy : Do you need to immerse yourself again in the work ? Mika : I immersed myself in a complet different environnement, I never recorded in Montreal before. Then, I didn't go home during three month and half. I left Montreal for Miami, Los Angeles, Miami again, Montreal again, I was touring, i was touring, and I went back with the half of my album. It was like a kind of... I don't know... it's really help me. It refresh me in every way. It's important, it was like if everything happen last year was a break, and a new begening. Guy : Precisely, it's true that the tragedy, which touched your family and your sister in particular, touched a lot your fan, you sent to them a few messages... Mika : No, no, it's not true, they didn't sent "a few" messages. She was in a Hospital in London, called the Royal London hospital. She received a hundred of messages, it was incredible, the hospital was complety shocked. The most of these were french. It was letters, flowers, carebears, she started to collect the carebears. Do you say that ? Carebears ? Teddybears ? They collected it and gave to children in the hospital because we had too much. It was incredible. She was totally shocked and very touched to see that. Guy : So, how is she ? Mika : She really fine, she is very strong, she is inspiring, it's inspiring me, but at the same time, it's scared me, because I never see a women... She will be thirty the next week... In fact she will be thirty just before the Compiègne's show. And she's fighting, she's complety convinced that she will walk again. She's already showing at everybody, the specialists and all the doctors, that she's doing a few step. It's incredible, really incredible, I never see someone fighting this way. She doesn't care about what people say, she will be sucessful.
