Lyrics

Elle était brune aux yeux noirs

On a grandi ensemble

Je la snobais dans le miroir

Je n'aimais pas qu'on se ressemble

Elle m'ennuyait avec sa gueule

De petite fille insolente

Je la laissais traîner toute seule

J'avais honte qu'elle me colle autant (?)

Thanks for the video!!!

EDIT : No time for a translation right now, but will do tonight or tomorrow if it hasn't been done in the meantime!

I adore the lyrics! Very personal meaning.

I absolutly adore this song... It gave me chills when he sang it last night!

Thank you camille! I'm not sure if I get them completely now, but I get a lot more now than before. He's trying to be Barbara again, isn't he? Telling a long story and only near the end saying what it was actually about. And I guess he's getting nervous about turning 30 after all :teehee:

Thanks for the new french song video and lyrics :thumb_yello: I love the lyrics, they are very deep, but I'm not impressed by the song,it sounds like someone else's song, rather than his.It reminds me of some other French singer, can't tell exactly which one.....

Not at the end... But at the end if the first chorus!

haha yes exactly my thought, he sings about "her" all the time, and only at the end of the chorus he tells who "she" is, his youth. :teehee: like in barbara's la solitude, that's also what it reminds me of. but i like la solitude, and i like this new mika song - beautiful, i like it a lot more than his other 2 slow french songs. :wub2:

shame tho that he didn't do hia leah or century man... and he hasn't done bonnie&clyde at *any* of the gigs yet, or has he? :dunno:

anyway, thanks for the video and the lyrics! i don't understand much of them tho, so i'd also be happy about a translation from someone. :wink2:

Here's a quick translation of this new song

She was dark-haired and dark-eyed

We grew up together

I used to give her a cold shoulder when I saw her in the mirror

I did not want to look like her

She annoyed me with her

insolent little girl's looks

I used to let her hanging around on her own

I was ashamed that she was so glued to me

I can see her going away like a good child

Who just behaves and turns pages

Now I could give her all my time

I have never seen her as beautiful as she is now

To try to sound older than her

I used to alter my voice

It's true that I found her

Too young for me

Without a word, like that,

She has moved

That's how she has left

My youth

With another one

Younger than me, of course

She cleared off one more time

He won't keep her for long

I can see her going away like a good child

Who just behaves and turns pages

Now I could give her all my time

I have never seen her as beautiful as she is now

To sound older than her

I used to alter my voice

It's true that I found her

Too young for me

Without a word, like that,

She has moved

That's how she has left

My youth (x2)

This was BY FAR my favorite Mika concert in Montreal :swoon:

his voice was just magnificient!

I arrived at the venue around 13h30 & there was already about 20 to 30 people in line. Then barely anyone arrived for another hour. But by 18h00, the line was so long!

It was very cold though, the wind was a killer! Thank god there was a Starbucks and other little restaurants really close by.

The security at the venue were kinda poopoo... they separated the line in 2, so that we didnt block the entrance of a restaurant & some kind of store with over priced chairs for sale:naughty:

Once, in the venue, i ended up 3rd row center, i had a great view just the same & it didn't stop me from having fun at all. Mika was often infront of me.

I can't remember the set list at all :naughty: We didn't get Hiya Leah or Century Man, but we did get a new song in french. He didn't say the name of it, but "Ma jeunesse" would make sense. It's a very soft and tender balad

It's the first time we get a new song and what a priviledge it was. He mentioned something about writing it while travelling, parts of it over the phone with Doriand.

I can honestly say that Mika had the crowd eating out of his hand.

At one point (close to the end), the crowd was screaming so loud, that Mika and the band had to remove their ear pieces :aah:

From memory (and believe me, that's dangerous) he played (no particular order)

Grace Kelly

Toy Boy

Rain

Elle me dit

Karen

Origin of Love

Celebrate

Stardust

Only Love you when i'm drunk

"ma jeunesse" (new french song)

Love Today

Stuck in the Middle

Over my Shoulder

Lola

Relax

Happy Ending (oh and that was so nice!)

Popular

He stood infront of where i was when he sang Stardust & his voice was just out of this world :swoon: i loved it!

When he sang Rain, he forgot the 2nd paragraph and went to a few MFCers (maybe Roxy) for help... and nobody could help him! :lmfao: some lady handed him her cell with the words for Rain & he used it to continue singing :naughty:

I didn't wait for him after the concert... i twisted my ankle last week & my pain medication was not working anymore. Apparently he came out not too long after we left, there was a large crowd waiting (100 or so) He spoke to a few people and left quickly

This concert reminded me of why i am a Mika fan, it was out of this world!

:wub2:

So pleased to hear it was a great one. :thumb_yello:

I've just listened to this new French song (yes, the good devoted fan I am translated it first :aah:). It's a really really really beautiful song :wub2: It gave me shivers :blush-anim-cl: Mika, don't feel blue, you'll be just 30 :wink2: but I agree with you: we want to grow up too fast and realize later on that time goes by too/so quickly!

Here is my slow translation :teehee:

She was brown haired with black eyes

We grew up together

I was avoiding to look at her in the mirror

I didn t like that we looked alike

She annoyed me with her playful face

I let her hang around on her own

I was ashamed to she stuck to me that much

Now I see her leaving

Like a well behaved child

Who only obeys and turns the pages

Now that I would take my time for her

I have never found her as beautiful as now

So I would seem older than her

I changed my voice

It s true I found her too young for me

Without a word just like that

She changes her address

And she goes away

My youth

With another one than me

And a younger one of course

She s going away once again

But he won t keep her for long

I see her leaving

Like a well behaved child

Who only obeys and turns the pages

Now that I would take all my time for her

I have never found her as beautiful as now

So I would seem older

he left so soon! but he must be tired... i know I was tired as hell........ so glad he got the gift n i even talked to him!! tho he signed on the gift... again... i knew it was coming but i still couldn't prevent it... *sign*

I don't know how this song can come across as personal when it was clearly written by someone else and he needs to read the lyrics from a piece of paper as if he's never even sung it before. :aah: Contrast that with the Make You Happy performance in LA that was utterly heartbreaking in its sincerity and Mika doesn't appear to connect with this song at all.

Thanks for the lyrics and translation Camille/Macboll. It does make a beautiful poem but I am never going to understand the point of Mika getting someone like Doriand to write lyrics for him.

But maybe we should have a song thread to discuss the song in detail and not do it in the gig thread.
