I didn't appreciate him tweeting such things without coming with a valid argument to back up his case. She is very clever actually and she knows what works and won't.

Yes I saw your reaction to that, implying that one could say the same about Mika if they didn't know better.

I agree with you, I preferred old Katy myself but what she's doing is obviously working for many.

They could. It seems as though he's against all that is mainstream. I am not sure, but that's how it comes across to me. And really, lyrics like Sucking too hard on your lollipop aren't exactly very poetic either:naughty:

I don't see any crutial discrepancy between your and my opinion.

If he wrote his lyrics based in some real life prototype (it's also case with "Lonely Alcoholic"), it doesn't change too much in the concept of understanding its meaning in the final version. Lyrics and art could never simply imitate some empirical facts, but always transform them into a piece of art.

For instance, all of actual female celebrities were some unknown girls back then craving for a fame.

Even if you concider them shallow today, they're have still become celebrities, whatever we might think about them.

I didn't see it, either, but now I do :naughty: (:teehee:)

That is not what I meant at all.

Once unknown girl achieving fame by whatever means to become a singer / performer = popstar (see Katy Perry).

Once unknown girl achieving fame by whatever means to merely become a tabloid feature /WAG = C list celeb (see Katie Price)

Significant difference - Katie Price was and will always be shallow, Katy Perry has never been.

i.e Achieving celebrity status in itself is not something to take pride in.

Ok, if you say so :dunno: We don't have to agree if you prefer:wink2:

Especially when you pull the first part of my post out the context. I just wanted to keep going with the lyrics interpretation not to deny what you've said.

After that I was pointing out their status as celebreties, and not their real value in our or public eyes. Tabloids obviously follow every step of Katy Perry as well even though she's not shallow as you say...cos she IS concidered as a celebrity.

No need to split hairs cos it's a common sense.:aah:

Seriously if we ever get Jordan ... The Opera ... I really will give up

:lmfao:

:lmao:

@Shine I said Katie Price (Jordan) was a C-list celeb. That is significantly different from an A-list one. As for the rest of the post, I was probably the only one understanding what you were getting at or at least showing interest in it, but I might as well just neglect those comments next time if you think it is 'splitting hairs'. To me it is was a discussion I enjoyed. :dunno:

No ... please ... that is bigging her up bigtime ... Z List .... or can she be a non-list celebrity .... I really don't like Jordan/Katie whatever she chooses to call herself :aah:

Actually can we send her and people like Kerry Katona to the moon or Mars ... I'm sure they'd do some good :biggrin2:

I have my bitchy head on today

I agree with you, Ingie.

It was a #voiceofagenerationformiddleclasskidswithoutrealproblems tweet ...:teehee:

I don't know what you are talking about now  I feel a bit lost

This tag I quoted was also tweeted by Andy:

" Noah & The Whale are epic #voiceofagenerationformiddleclasskidswithoutrealproblems "

and I thought this tag also fitted the comment he made about Katy Perry's video :teehee:

yes, true. I wasn't sure if you use that term...:naughty:

There is clearly a difference between celebrities.

Here we only use the word 'celeb' to someone who cannot really show any merit in their career. In English you can certainly emphasize the difference by calling them A-, B-, C- or Z-list celebrities...:naughty:

She was in a girl-band, wasn't she? Did she sing at least? In Hungary we even had a girl band duo who sang on the same voice (the voice of a third person :lmfao:)

Kerry Katona was in Atomic Kitten ... she fell in love with a member of Westlife who she married and she quit the band before they became properly famous - He then left her for an Aussie soap star ... she became famous again when she went into the jungle as part of that silly program - I'm A Celebrity - Get Me Out Of Here - she won her series. I don't ever watch it ... It's more like ... I Used To Be Famous - Please Someone Remember Me ... :wink2: Or at least that's what I call it ... :teehee:

She then got into drugs .... married an idiot ... and now has her own tv show proving she's now not an idiot because she split from waste of a space husband - what people will watch is beyond me :dunno:

I really don't do reality tv - it's rather boring :lmfao:

@Laurel

Thank you for explaining it all about Kerry Katona. :teehee:

We had 2 series of I'm A Celebrity - Get Me Out Of Here, too, as well as other similar reality shows. I have the same opinion about them in general and although I don't watch them, I am usually more or less aware of what is going on since these shows (if broadcast on some big commercial channel ) feed other programmes and news sites with 'content'.

However, there are some reality tv shows, especially the Big Brother types, that I do ’tend to’ watch towards the end (when they can’t help but be themselves after spending months inside) as it is such a great observation on group dynamics and different personalities in general. In fact, I wanted to bring up something about the latest BB type of show here concerning viewers usually preferring someone with any dodgy past rather than sympathising with a porn star. It is related to Mika’s latest blog so I might post about it later.

Now I don't understand what you are getting at. It's interesting that you know for sure that no one else doesn't understand what I was getting at except you.

And I'm very happy that you are vox populi on this forum. Please keep going that way.

You're also not obliged in any way to reply my posts, cos no one is interested in them as you put it.

On the contrary, I actually was enjoyed the discussion, but you got it all wrong.

We've got a new reality show in Britain that many people are raving about, called "The Only Way Is Essex."

The other week I watched it, to see what the hype was about and the only one who was remotely interesting was a pig called Mr Darcy.

The rest were almost as interesting as watching paint dry, and you could tell they were reading from a script, it was Sooooo staged!!

I'll be giving it a miss in future. I've probably only got about 40 years left on this mortal coil, I'm not wasting them watching rubbish like that!!

Hello there :)

I've just read the new article...it's not bad at all :)

I think it's interesting, but I prefer one with more information about the next CD :naughty:

But... what's up besides the XL Republica? :biggrin2:

Ha ... I think we'd all like that one :aah:

It's definitely a piece of trash and not a true representation of our county at all. I was picked to be in the music video to promote the new series actually (I got paid) and met the cast. Yes they are quite common but from what I saw they seem nice enough, but I do think the show does highlight their real characters, for the most part at least.

I've tried to watch the show on a number of occassions and can't even get through 10 minutes. My sister watches it but only because she finds it so bad it's funny - and I suppose it is the kind of show to point and laugh at. Anyone with a brain cell will know and understand that the people in the show are just stereotypes and that not every girl has a "vajazzle" (I hadn't even heard of it until this show), has a fake tan, wears lip liner past her lips, wears short, slutty dresses, is incredibly common, is really thick, thinks looks are "all that" etc etc. I could go on. Anyone who does think that...well. That's like saying all Welsh people are sheep shaggers but that's not the case, why would it be for Essex?

Not that I'm saying you/Marilyn/anyone think all Essex people are like that :naughty: It's just something that really grates me. Essex is a county that's already laughed at by people due to stereotyping and now there's just something else to laugh at. Telling people I'm from Essex is an embarrassment because I know there are going to be jokes. And, I can take a joke, but hearing the same ones more than...5 times? is very tiring :naughty:

I'm not exactly posh totty but I'm not like those girls at all and find the show very irritating, as are many other people in Essex. It has created a tourism boost by 140% though so hopefully those that come here for a holiday realise that we're just another place in England, just with a different accent :naughty:

Downton Abbey anyone?

I used to watch Dallas because of that when I was a teenager. We only had 2 channels on my native language though and no internet, so that was a good escape from studies.:teehee:

Even to this day there are reality shows that would fall into this category for me if I bothered to watch more of them. (The type you only watch to have a good laugh at how fake it is):naughty:

I have honestly never heard jokes about Essex girls until you mentioned the existance of such stereotyping ... Is it something recent (last 5-10 years) or has it always existed?

I have honestly never heard jokes about Essex girls until you mentioned the existance of such stereotyping ... Is it something recent (last 5-10 years) or has it always existed?

Oh no it's always existed but the stereotype has altered slightly. In my mum and dad's generation Essex girls were always known to wear white stillettos and have white handbags :dunno: Even last night I was watching an episode of Come Dine With Me and it was set in Southend, Essex. One of the guy's desserts was called "white stilletto" (even though it didn't resemble a high heel at all) and said "Oh yeah the girls will love my dessert cos of the name, and then they'll just talk about shoes all night" - and that's coming from a guy who LIVES in Essex  These women were friendly and intelligent - one was a business woman who also works on Southend Radio and the other worked for a charity, and yet they were still belittled by a man who lives in the same county as they do who IMO should have known better (in fact, the woman who works for a charity reminded me of Jemma because she was so friendly and chatty :biggrin2:)

Nowadays, the stereotype can go in two ways - looking and acting like Vicky Pollard or being a rich bitch/gold digger covered in a whole load of fake.

Even when I went to Egypt my group of friends told some Egyptians that we were from Essex and they went "wheeeeeeeeeeeeeey Essex giiiiiirrrrrrrls!!"

:lmao:

I shouldn't laugh, but that's just such a ridiculous stereotype that it's actually quite hilarious.

Okay thanks :naughty:
