Concerning his comparison of a gold digger to a porn star, I can actually see a clear difference but I must admit I don’t tend to seek the company of either of them.

I don't think he was comparing one to the other, just pointing out that she was both. And he doesn't seem to have a problem with either apparently. :naughty:

I'm really struggling to understand how Mika can't see why other women are going to revile a no talent who lived a life of greed and gluttony and earned a living by doing things all self-respecting women find disgusting. To me tragedy has the sense that fate intervenes and creates a victim, not that you are a product of your own self destruction. I suppose you could point to her son's death as a twist of fate that sent her over the edge but with a mother like that as an influence and a role model it's hardly surprising is it?

Of course I have compassion for anyone's misery in whatever form it takes, but I'm sure there are thousands of people like this all over America (and elsewhere). I wouldn't expect anyone to particularly empathize with this woman who would do anything to make a buck or become famous instead of looking after her children properly.

Thanks Robi, Nezza and Mana:wink2:

I share Mikas annoyance, but not for the same reasons.

I like opera a lot, and productions like this and the Jerry Springer one, leave me cold, as I can't feel any real emotion from them, which in most operas you get in spades.

I did see a few minutes of this production on tv the other night, and had to turn over, as it did absolutely nothing for me, didn't grip me at all.

Maybe it's because I know the back story too well, and was reviled by it as it was based on journalistic sensationalism, which I dispise. I can't say what the dynamic was between Anna and her husband, no one can really, it was between them. I'm sure his family did see her as a threat to them, but then when moneys involved, folk always get bent out of shape.

The whole reality show, was a travesty from the start. I saw the trailers, (never watched, dislike "reality" shows with a passion!), and they seemed to make her into a hysterical clown. I'm sure when the cameras stopped rolling, she wasn't like that at all.

She surrounded herslf with self absorbed people, who did her no favours, and were only riding her coat tails for fame. That was the tragedy of her life, if she had dumped them and kept the people who really loved her in her life, I think she'd still be here today.

I've never heard about this woman before and, as Rosa said, propably no one did here in Brazil. But, judging by what you're all saying, even if she had numerous issues with her husband, son, health and everything, it's just not fair to anyone to be seen like a stupid clown. Anyway, apperently this is what the biggest part of the media can bring to people nowadays. We can see it over Mika sometimes (and I'm not comparing situations, I'm just making a parallel), right?

And I love opera, I always did, but I don't think I can remember some new and good ones. I'm usually attracted to those old and good ones. I don't want to judge people's attitude, including people from ROH or people who go there to see their exhibition, but sometimes this "common sense" version is simply more effective ($).

BTW, does anyone know how was the "process" to convince her about being part of the "reality" show?

Oh, I must add: on MS? ALREADY?

To be honest when I read about the subject... I didn´t try to read it as I did with the rest of the columns since I didn´t hear before about Anne Nicole and I don´t like opera at all. But reading Mika´s original,I´ve loved it. Not because the subject (I´ve read wikipedia and still I don´t like this woman) but because of Mika´s way of expressing himself.

I absolutely loved it.

Agree! I heard about her, but wasn't that impressed. Usually I can't be too sympathetic to such kind of people. I don't understand drugs taking, I don't understand alcohol, I'm bored by porno in most cases, I don't approve many things. Maybe I'm too correct and boring? But I have kids and don't want a role model for them like this...

This article subject wasn't that interesting as all the previous, but I loved to read Mika's impression, and try to understand his point of view.

In this article I mostly pay attention to phrase building, Mika's vocabulary and al other linguistic things :wink2:

Agree :blush-anim-cl: His way of writing is absolutely great, I always appreciate Mika's ability to build a text that begins with a certain situation, tells something serious in the middle and, in the end, brings that first situation back. :teehee:

I agree, I have always loved his writing style, I would love to see him writing more in the future :wub2:

There is a Finnish singer-songwriter who wrote a book and I started to listen to his music after I read the book. And I couldn't believe why I didn't listen to his music earlier. He writes blogs too.

I'm smiling because we had a possibility to read the original column today!! No waiting this time!!! :thumb_yello:

This month's subject surprised me, I must say... :naughty:

I never cared much about Anna Nicole's story, to be honest, and I had no idea there was going to be an opera about her.

But still, I loved reading Mika's opinion. Very interesting column! :thumb_yello:

Yes, I was just remembering his dyslexia myself. To think that he's become such a brilliant wordsmith who is captivating so many with his writing. It is nothing short of a miracle imo.

I always thought he wrote Good Gone Girl about Ana Nicole ( Georgia ) and Kati Price ( April ). Maybe I was right.....

I really adore the column. It shows us the way how Mika sees the world. Of course I had my own image about Ana Nicole in my head but I find it really interesting to look at it from another perspective.

Thanks Mana for posting

I don't think fame hungry people who would do anything for money need to be convinced hard about taking part in reality shows.

Yes, I hope such rich vocabulary shows up in his lyrics, too one day..:mf_rosetinted:

Btw, I don't think it is his writing style itself that is admirable for a well-spoken native speaker - I think the content is, whether you agree with it or not.

Hahahahaha :roftl:

Probably makes sence :aah:

:huglove:

... actually, my original quote did not as I used a different word for fame hungry first but accidentally left part of the previous expression in the post :aah: Never mind, glad you liked it...:biggrin2:

Maybe "writing style" is a wrong word, I was not referring to his language when I used it, maybe it's the way he is expressing his thoughts. In any case, I really enjoy reading it :wub2:

Perhaps self-respect is the key word here. I don't think people with a healthy self-esteem can relate to her story unless it is told in a detail the average theatre goer is not familiar with and in a way that arises pity for her.

To me tragedy has the sense that fate intervenes and creates a victim, not that you are a product of your own self destruction.

I still call it tragic as I have no better word for it, but it may not touch me on any level as I really can't identify myself with her at all. I merely find it an interesting case study of how you can destroy yourself with self-indulgence. It is a good story. Mika might write a song about it… :naughty:
