Yes, I noticed that too.  At least this is what I see, with my lame French   it's "all her colors and her perfumes", not "all these colors and these perfumes" . Also "her jasmine", not "his jasmine"

[English] MIKA - C'est la Vie (Lyric Video).txt

Lyric Video

What is beauty ?

What is ugly?

What is fake?

What is real?

What does it all have to do with it

What is it?

What’s death?

The lives before

What’s rain?

What about nice weather?

What’s coming straight ahead?

What are all these wrinkles

On my face?

Why do they come

And betray my age

Even if getting old is like a sinking

What is it?

What are all these flowers and
her love?

My brothers and sisters and their
heavy hearts

A closet locked so tightly

Because that’s what life is about

Because that’s what it is

Because that’s what life is about

Because that’s what it is

Because that’s what life is about

Because that’s what it is

Because that’s what life is about

That’s life

All her colours and scents

Her Damascus roses and her jasmine

Like her Lebanon fading away

We thought she was dreaming too big

That she drew like a child

In the end, she was the one
thinking ahead

If that’s what life is about

If that’s what love is about

May your head bloom

And keep on blooming

If that’s what life is about

If that’s what death is about

May your head bloom

And keep on blooming

Because that’s what life is about

Because that’s what it is

Because that’s what life is about

Because that’s what it is

Because that’s what life is about

Because that’s what it is

Because that’s what life is about

That’s life

So life, take a look at me!

Because I won’t be afraid of
you anymore

With flowers even silently

She tells me

So life, take a look at me!

Because I won’t be afraid of
you anymore

With flowers even silently

She tells me

She tells me to dance!

Because that’s what life is about

Because that’s what it is

Because that’s what life is about

Because that’s what it is

Because that’s what life is about

Because that’s what it is

cuori affranti

Armadio chiuso a doppia mandata

Perché così è la vita

Perché è così

Perché così è la vita

Perché è così

Perché così è la vita

Perché è così

Perché così è la vita

È la vita

Tutti i suoi colori e profumi

in grande

Che disegnasse come una bambina

Eppure era lei che vedeva lontano

Se è questa la vita

Se è questo l'amore

Che la tua testa fiorisca

Fiorisca sempre

Se è questa la vita

Se è questa la morte

Che la tua testa fiorisca

Fiorisca ancora

Perché così è la vita

Perché è così

Perché così è la vita

Perché è così

Perché così è la vita

Perché è così

Perché così è la vita

È la vita

Allora vita guardami!

Perché non avrò più paura di te

Con dei fiori pur in silenzio

Me lo dice

Allora vita guardami!

Perché non avrò più paura di te

Con dei fiori pur in silenzio

Me lo dice

Mi dice di ballare!

Perché così è la vita

Perché è così

Perché così è la vita

Perché è così

Perché così è la vita

Perché è così

Perché così è la vita

È la vita

¿Qué es feo?

¿Qué es falso?

¿Qué es verdad?

Qué tiene que ver todo esto

¿Qué es?

¿Qué está muerto?

Las vidas que había antes

¿Qué es la lluvia?

¿Qué hay del buen tiempo?

¿Qué hay por delante?

¿Qué son todas estas arrugas

¿En mi cara?

Por qué aparecen

Y delatan mi edad

Aunque hacerse mayor es un naufragio

¿Qué es?

¿Qué son todas estas flores y
su amor?

Mis hermanos y hermanas y sus
corazones afligidos

Siempre florezca

Si en eso consiste la vida

Si en eso consiste la muerte

Que tu cabeza florezca

Siga floreciendo

Porque de eso trata la vida

Porque eso es lo que es

Porque de eso trata la vida

Porque eso es lo que es

Porque de eso trata la vida

Porque eso es lo que es

Porque de eso trata la vida

Así es la vida

Asi que vida, ¡mírame!

Porque ya no te tendré miedo
nunca más

Con flores, aunque sea en silencio

Ella me dice

Asi que vida, ¡mírame!

Porque ya no te tendré miedo
nunca más

Con flores, aunque sea en silencio

Ella me dice

¡Ella me dice que baile!

Porque de eso trata la vida

Porque eso es lo que es

Porque de eso trata la vida

Porque eso es lo que es

Porque de eso trata la vida

Czym jest piękno?

Czym jest brzydota?

Co jest fałszywe?

Co jest prawdziwe?

Co to wszystko ma wspólnego

Co to jest?

Czym jest śmierć?

Życie przed

Czym jest deszcz?

A co z ładną pogodą?

Co nas czeka?

Co to za zmarszczki

Na mojej twarzy?

Dlaczego przychodzą

I zdradzają mój wiek

Nawet jeśli starość jest jak tonięcie

Co to jest?

Czym są te wszystkie kwiaty i jej
miłość?

Moi bracia i siostry i ich ciężkie
serca

Szafa zamknięta tak szczelnie

Bo na tym polega życie

Bo to właśnie to

Bo na tym polega życie

Bo to właśnie to

Bo na tym polega życie

Bo to właśnie to

Bo na tym polega życie

To jest życie

Wszystkie jej kolory i zapachy

Jej róże damasceńskie i jaśmin

Niczym jej oddalający się Liban

Myśleliśmy, że ma zbyt wielkie
marzenia

Że rysowała jak dziecko

Koniec końców, to ona myślała o
przyszłości

Jeśli o to chodzi w życiu

Jeśli o to chodzi w miłości

Niech twoja głowa rozkwitnie

I kwitnie dalej

Jeśli o to chodzi w życiu

Jeśli o to chodzi w śmierci

Niech twoja głowa rozkwitnie

I kwitnie dalej

Bo na tym polega życie

Bo to właśnie to

Bo na tym polega życie

Bo to właśnie to

Bo na tym polega życie

Bo to właśnie to

Bo na tym polega życie

To jest życie

Więc życie, spójrz na mnie!

Bo już nie będę się ciebie bać

Z kwiatami nawet bezgłośnie

Ona każe mi

Więc życie, spójrz na mnie!

Bo już nie będę się ciebie bać

Z kwiatami nawet bezgłośnie

Ona każe mi

Ona każe mi tańczyć!

Bo na tym polega życie

Yep, life is about aging, loss, pain and death, so 🤷🏽‍♂️just face it and live.

He has talked about his mom being tough. I do not think she coddled him when his childhood turned to poop. She grabbed him from that school and got down to business, home schooling him and hiring that Russian Cosack Coach…and putting him to work as a young kid to support the family. She saved him. He saved them. She died a horrible death. But she went to his concert in a wheelchair 2 days before she died. She was a survivor. So is he. And if you notce his affect when he talks about his past, he is not feeling sorry for himself.

"His jasmine" never made sense to me. Lost in translation, because "sa" can be "her" or "his" in French.

Google automatic subs always mess up with feminine and masculine. Even when it comes to Mika they often use "she". Of course that's "her jasmine" (Mika's mum's jasmine) It is also funny that in the song it is "my brothers" as Mika only has one brother. :offtopic: but I was always finding strange in "All she wants" the lyrics "All she wants is another son" as I believed Fortune to be straight but after he got married to s man, the lyrics finally made sense. (A third son)

I know nothing about the rich multitudes of languages that are spoken in Mikaworld, but when I commented about Google translations and gender my Hunny pointed out that his name ends in an “a”. Think that might be a part of it?

Oh! Fortune is gay too? I didn’t know. That makes sense because I can’t imagine the line meaning mom wanted another, as in different, as in nongay, son. Otherwise I couldn’t figure the line out at all.

As an outsider,I love reading the various discussions of what the French lyrics may mean. Language and culture and how they translate is (are?) endlessly deep.

  • dcdeb changed the title to C'est La Vie - Song and Lyrics Discussion
  • 3 weeks later...

Responding to my own post, after thinking about the lyrics, I actually do think they suggest that the mother wanted another, as in different, maybe even straight-so-he-could-get-married-and-give-her-grandchildren one. After all, it is said in the past-tense, and although she has made it clear that she always knew and loved him anyway, attitudes were different when he was young, and she is allowed her disappointments, if she had them. Finding out your kid is gay was, still can be, the death of your fantasy about their life at first.

Wait aren't you french? :D

Cause I thought the lyric made more sense in french because "frères et soeurs" just means siblings doesn't it?! Of course "brothers and sisters" is also just a synonym but perhaps sounds more like you have both several brothers and several sisters. So I guess in english I'd translate it with the gender neutral "siblings".

The written lyrics are wrong but Mika is right.

He sings " mes frère et soeurs" .

Otherwise there would be an audible kind of "z" in between "mes brothers z and sisters "

French is a strange language so "mes" is right with 1 brother AND 1 sister .

This is not an exeption ....because "H" is a consonant, not a vowel.:wink2:

Btw for the same reason " L 'harcèlement , DE L ' harcèlement "or "D'harcelement" are wrong

We have to say  " LE harcèlement " or " DU harcèlement "

Then " Mika a été victime DE harcèlement" not " Mika a été victime D'harcèlement"

This is the French lesson of the day .....thank you for your attention :naughty:

To answer to this specific question ,you're right with the translation

I think that the strict translation of siblings is "adelphe" , but tbh I don't think many people are using it .

guys, it's song lyrics - they don't have to be grammatically correct. :teehee: There probably will be some more mistakes in French on the album, as Mika says he didn't want to pretend to be French but write the songs the way he writes them in French, with mistakes and all. Tbh I don't even know if in English it'd be correct to say "my brother and sisters", as they don't have different "my" for male and female nouns, and for singular and plural. I only know that in German you'd definitely need to use more words, if you don't want to sound like a "krass Checker". :lmfao: (which refers to a kind of gangsta slang that some use because they don't know it better but most of those who use it just think it's cool to use wrong grammar )

Anyway, Mika's slightly imperfect (but still much more perfect than mine) French might give us much more food for analysis with an album full of songs, lol! :lol3: Knowing us, we'll probably interpret much more into it than he ever intended. :teehee:

In this case, I don't think a reference to the lyrics of All She Wants was intentional.

I agree @mellody but I just cannot resist getting into a debate about languages, I might be a music lover first and foremost but language lover is a close second.

You're right this might get very interesting with a whole french album.

And of course we will interpret more into each song than he ever intended, that's a given!! ;)

This is not an exeption ....because "H" is a consonant, not a vowel.:wink2:

Yes, H is a consonant, but there is the "h aspiré" and the "h muet".

In modern French, the initial "h" is generally aspirated for words of Germanic origin and silent for words of Latin origin.

Btw for the same reason " L 'harcèlement , DE L ' harcèlement "or "D'harcelement" are wrong

We have to say  " LE harcèlement " or " DU harcèlement "

Yes, but when the h is silent, it is written "l'", so "l'homme", "l'heure", "l'histoire" or "l'hopital". So, for example, it's also "les hommes" and that's where the liaison is made and it sounds like "lezomme".

But "héros" has an aspirated h, so no liaison is made, so "mes héros" is pronounced as "me ero". No wonder Mika made this mistake.

And I'm going to hell for correcting a French. :nervous:

For siblings, I also found "fratrie", which is also used, but perhaps in writing rather than verbally.

And would also be too short for the line in the song and not very nice either, if you ask me.

There probably will be some more mistakes in French on the album, as Mika says he didn't want to pretend to be French but write the songs the way he writes them in French, with mistakes and all.

Yes, but as far as I know, Doriand helps him and then the lyrics should be right in the end and Mika also sings it correctly. But careless mistakes always happen...

You know what I don’t think? I don’t think this level of sophistication and intelligent conversation can be found in any other performers’ fan clubs. Mika attracts quality fans on so many levels.

This is what I had in my mind, but I couldn’t word it as eloquently as you just did, so thank you! It’s for a non-French speaker quite easy to make mistakes with the liaisons. Especially when they are not consonant dependent but pronunciation dependent

Yes, and I also wondered for a long time why they are called "aspiré" and "muet", because I don't hear aspiration in the "aspiré" either. Today I finally looked it up and the h "aspiré" is not pronounced by most French people. I'm glad I'm not deaf. :lol3:

And you know what? I have been trying to learn French for a year now. Once I tell the francophone fans when I see them at concerts, they are 100% willing to be patient with me when I’m struggling to say something and are all willing to help me. There is so much kindness when learning eachother’s languages!

There is no place in hell for you , first because it's a complement , not a correction and you are absolutely right

I don't know why , but usualy people don't make any mistakes with the silent h , that's why I totaly forgot about it

As for the "fratrie" ,  it defines the whole group of siblings , so I don't know if somebody who is part of it can use it to talk about the other ones .As much as I remember , I only saw it used by people who are outside .

So ,now we have something new to search and talk about...:naughty:

As I said before ,French is a very strange language and people learning it are very brave !

Anyway, Mika's slightly imperfect (but still much more perfect than mine) French might...

Oh how I wish my French were ever as "imperfect" as Mika's! Son francais est parfait, il est parfait. Full stop. :lmfao:
