You went to Latitude too?

Did you meet him after?

I too am one of the shorties, so try to make sure I get as close to the front as I can. It's hard if you get stuck amongst all the tall people:shocked:

Yes, I was at Latitude - right at the front pinned to the barrier :naughty:! My son and daughter ended up much further back in the Uncut Tent during Mika's set and didn't get to see very much (even though they're taller than me).

Nothing worse than ending up looking at people's backs - almost might as well not be there, plus it's just very claustrophobic! I think I'm going to have to wear 'platforms' at Hammersmith! :biggrin2:

And no, I didn't meet Mika afterwards at Latitude - don't know why, I didn't even think of trying to catch him after his set - well, not strictly true, but I didn't know how/where to go about doing it, so didn't give it much thought - I'm such a novice at this sort of thing, I think I need to be with some 'pro's' at this "waiting-to-meet-Mika-after-gigs" stuff!

He came out on the left side, Babs, Fanny Steph, Sophie,me, and a couple of others met him and had a chat with him. It was about 20mins after he'd finished, and he was between interviews.

Festivals are notoriously hard to meet him at, but we struck lucky here.

Now that's a better idea methinks :naughty:

And while we're at the planning, is it only me who's getting concerned about the fact that now, 4 months before the date, people are already making plans to get there first thing in the morning?

This is exactly why I'm starting to hate this massive gigs with GA standing and why I loved Sadler's Wells in June. It was such a relief, such a liberation, turning up feeling relaxed, not hungry and tired and thirsty and looking like a hobo, safe in the knowledge that I needn't waste a whole day standing there to end it all in the "Big Bang" getting into the venue scramble.

Some might argue that I felt that way because I had front row seats, but that is not the case-The point is, even if I had had 15th row seats, I KNEW where I was going and I was relaxed thinking that there would be no stress trying to get in and find a good spot. When there are so many "hardcores" at these gigs it becomes a proper battle to get to the front, with everyone trying their luck and pushing and all sorts, and this is why I am all for seated gigs. There's no need to sit, we can all decide to just stand from the start, and when it comes down to it, it doesn't change the atmosphere one bit.

Anyway, this is turning out to be a bit of a long one and the only point that I was trying to make is: if we start carrying on now (or ever, but especially now, so far in advance) about how early everyone is willing to get there on gig day, we will end up with a Brixton scenario where people are spending the night there.

Now, considering that the "normal" people only start turning up at the earliest around 2-3 pm, isn't that just majorly stupid of us????? It keeps happening and it keeps getting earlier and earlier, and I just don't get it. It will be the middle of winter, people. Do any of you remember how bitterly cold it was at Brixton?

Do we NEED to spend the whole day there? Do you rememeber anyway how they opened more than one door at the time in Hammersmith and once we got in it was all a big scramble, so the order in the queue didn't have such a huge impact anyway?

If the purpose of the queuing is to socialise, we can go to Starbucks and sit and chat there having tea in the warmth. And yes, don't worry, I know that this huge post won't make any difference if someone is determined to be there at the crack of dawn :biggrin2:, but I'm just getting really worried that the conversation about "how early should we get there" has already started and that people are so quick to WANT to go and spend the day there. I reckon that we should make some sort of arrangement that everyone agrees to abide by, like say for example not going there before a certain time. Would that work? If people are honourable it could....

What a great idea! I'm up for spending all morning in Starbucks talking about Mika!!

I'm arriving midday sunday, so if I am on time, I'll defo join the lunch. :thumb_yello:

as for the party on sunday eve, I'll just go back to my hotel then.. :tears: (still up for thr lift if you have the van in reach BTW.. :biggrin2::teehee:).

Ok, that's a deal then, party at Avoca's hotel room after the gig :biggrin2:. Are you guys planning on a hotel already, might be cheaper (and more fun) if we end up in the same one?

I would love not to queue too early, I am totally up for it. We could even walk along the venue before having lunch to see if there's a long queue already, in case people are worrying about being at the venue too late.

Since I freeze easily, I don't know what to wear. A lot of warm clothes? But in the venue it'll be warm I suppose so I'll choke there then . What do you guys do?

Take a big bag so you can shove your coat/scarf/jumper/whatever in it. And make sure it's one you can zip up so you don't have to worry abotu stuff falling out during the gig. :thumb_yello:

Just booked a family room at Battersea Travelode for this one. It isn't on the tube but the bus passes the door and there is a night bus from just around the corner after the gig. This is where quite a few of us stayed last time for this gig. I have paid £12 for a family room:shocked::thumb_yello:

I think a lot of people here would prefer not to queue early, the Sadlers Wells show proved that, we were all so relaxed and it made for a much better evening.

Like you say, we have a few months to plan, so if we all get together and come to an agreement we can have a fun day, before the gig.:thumb_yello:

I've just given the idea on both Mikafrance and Mikawebsite Forums! I'm waiting for reactions and suggestions now :thumb_yello:

Battersea travelodge it is then :thumb_yello:. Does anyone know if a travelodge can be booked from abroad (and does anyone wants to share a room with me)?

Shady doesn't know yet, she will let me know today, she is going to Dublin for certain. I bought two tickets, if she isn't coming I am not sure whom I will give my 2nd ticket to. If there is no MFC'er who wants it I'll offer it to my buddy from school I think, she is a Mika fan as well. In that case, I would need space for two. But if an MFC'er gets it, I would gladly take your offer. I'll let you know as soon as possible!

I've just given the idea on both Mikafrance and Mikawebsite Forums! I'm waiting for reactions and suggestions now :thumb_yello:

Of course this idea is really good !!

Everybody prefers enjoy the day, chat in a bar, sightseeing during the morning than spending the whole day queuing.

Like Sara and Rose said, let's manage that all together. We obviously want the same on the french forums :wink2:

Even if I think it'll be complicated and that you can't change some people's behaviour... but if the majority plays the game, why not !

You have time to plan that ! Glad some voices start to express themselves about this problem. I was also surprised to see people talking about arriving times already  even in the French Forum...

I don't go to the London gig because I had a bad memory of the queuing thing the 28th at Brixton. It was my second gig, but the first one as a real fan.... and this time, I don't want to go to a London gig because of that... That's why I choose Glasgow that I wanted to discover too. :naughty:

Hope everything will be ok !

I know it's early to talk about that now but if Rose or anybody else needs someone from the Mikawebsite to talk with about that, don't esitate to PM me :wink2: It coud be nice to see that we can finally work together...:blush-anim-cl:
