(Thought the details of the why are not always essential when you are given a day off ) I think it comes from Pagan Times originally, and was to do with fertility. In Britain, girls used to dance around a pole. I don't need to say what the pole is meant to be. Oh my goodness I've just seen the big news. It's funny that I was just talking about fertility.
