The Official " The Origin of Love " Charts & Sales around the World Thread

My theory is they wanted the Pharrell fanfare, but that backfired because it's nothing like a Pharrell track. That made sense to me when Mika said him and Nick changed it. As a Pharrell fan, I was very disappointed in the final product.

However, I LOVE the Tah Dah song, also a Pharrell track.

Hypothesis 1 : Pharrell Williams threatened someone to release this one as 1st single :mf_rosetinted:

Hypothesis 2 : Origin of Love was not ready enough when he had to release the 1st single.

Hypothesis 3 : Mika seriously thought Celebrate is the best representative song in TOOL :mf_rosetinted:

else? :naughty:

I don't think its anything like the other songs. If I heard Celebrate, and it was someone else's song, not Mika's, I wouldn't have been keen for the album.

I can't understand it really. Why wasn't it the lead single? Its the title track. Its way better than Celebrate. The only way I like hearing Celebrate is, when its acoustic and Pharell has been dumped in favour of China Boy.

I'm thrilled about The Origin Of Love (the song) doing well!

Well, it's no use to argue Celebrate wasn't the best choice at all but I hope Underwater can make up for it and maybe lead the CD to the top of the charts wordwide ;) I hope TOOL 'll get to be a single as well... :wub2:

I just noticed that Celebrate has been 6 weeks on Billboards Club Music Hot Dance songs charts (2 weeks on top 25): http://www.billboard.com/charts/billboard-200#/charts/dance-club-play-songs?begin=21&order=position :thumb_yello:

I remember that WAG did quite well on these charts also.

Yes, it's currently #22 on this chart. :thumb_yello:

I'm getting quite excited for Uw! It looks like there's going to be a stunning video. As I just said on the Uw Video thread, a good video could do wonders. Uw has a beautiful melody, and the fantasy vid would suit it so much.

As my son says, these days the video can be what sells the song. I've not been that impressed by Mika's vids apart from Happy Ending. It's the only one of his that, quite frankly, didn't look like a home-movie. We all know he cannot rely on those stinkers at Radio One to play his song, so he has to go down another route.

Fingers, toes and eyes are crossed for this one. GO MIKA!

The album's hanging in there on the iTunes charts -- still in the top 200 overall (#179). And it's #26 (#98 standard edition) on the Pop chart. The Popular Song seems to have fallen out of the Pop singles chart, though.

Interestingly, Celebrate is showing as #23 on Billboard's Japan Hot 100 chart and as #71 on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

Looking at all those numbers it seems Quebec really loves Mika: Album still #9 after a month :thumb_yello:

Check at Archambault: album is #11, Elle me dit is #6 MP3 and #2 French MP3

So, Mika, when are you coming for a full tour in my province?

TOOL is number 47 in US charts: http://www.billboard.com/charts/billboard-200#/charts/billboard-200?begin=41&order=position

TBWKTM was number 19 the 1st week but dropped out quite quickly. I hope that TOOL stays longer in Billboard charts .

The thing is Billboard charts are based on airplay as well as sales so unless he gets some radio play it's likely going to drop off.

It's a shame because a girl was telling me in Chicago she had a hard time finding the album as they were sold out in several stores. And they had been stocking 30 CDs in the stores, it wasn't as if they hadn't ordered any to begin with.

http://www.concertlive.fr/actualite/mika-fait-carton-france-sa-tournee-the-origin-of-love-8438533 ! :dance_man::clap:

The pop star Mika enjoys his triumph : all the concerts of his tour in France "The Origin of Love" scheduled in autumn 2012, including two dates at the Casino de Paris, sold out!

Necessarily frustrating (for latecomers) while the new tour in France Mika starts this Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012 in Lille (The Colosseum in Roubaix), there are no more tickets for sale for this concert in the North or to the other dates of the French "Origin of Love Tour", including the Casino de Paris on 12 and 13 November 2012. And those for some weeks already. Clearly, the tour is sold out!

Therefore, it is not surprising that the artist and his French turner Alias announced shortly Production of new concerts. A tip: stay tuned not to miss the next live info Mika. You may have good surprises ...

What is certain however is that the mega success of Mika, in times of crisis is more, if need be demonstrated that the performer of "Love Today" and "Elle Me Dit" has become the one of the biggest stars of his generation, a staple of pop with his dancing style, colorful and refreshing.

Beyond the success of his three albums ("Life in Cartoon Motion", "The Boy Who Knew Too Much" and "The Origin of Love") and its countless hits, including the latest "Celebrate" (featuring in with Pharrell Williams) in a loop on the airwaves and Internet, Mika causes a wide audience eager to see his incredible concerts, in which he spends most of his time to jump.

It's very nice but for me, the French articles don't count. I'm sorry, but I wish this article was from the UK, or failing that, the USA. Places where he really needs these great comments and sold out gigs..

I've been thinking. Why isn't Mika on Jools Holland this time? Jools series is on atm. Also, where's that programe Mika recorded, when he had the interview with the nice guy, sitting at a table. Was it an album show? Something like that? When's it going to air?

He really needs some prime-time exposure here in the UK.

I think he has had it, that's all the results. :dunno:

People get invited to shows like that, with record companies 'nominating' them, most likely. Shame the interest is not there. Him performing The Origin of Love or Underwater at the Jools Holland show would be lovely. Perhaps for some Xmas special.

That is sad to hear. It means that there is no expectation of this album to do well in the US.

Thanks for posting.

I'm surprised that they are talking about a 'mega success'.. Is it so hard for any artist to sell out 8 venues of about 1500 ppl?

They are obviously preparing an announcement for the next set of small gigs you wouldn't want to miss...

Yes that's what we need to do. The album is wonderful. If ppl get to hear it they should buy it. When the concert on R2 was on, I gave a Mika party and we listened to the concert. My friends were very impressed.
