It works for me, and I love this documentary! It's so great when the host shows him the baby photos. And it reminds me about a discussion we had here at MFC some time ago, if it was MIKA or not, at one of these photos. I remember I thought it was, while others said "no, this is not MIKA" - his own comments while watching these photos here is: "it's so similar" In this vid. I also see photos of him that I haven't seen before - those from ROH time. It's also funny to hear him explaining that "the hall was trembling" - about his performance at Olympia - which is the feeling I've always had, after watching this DVC so many times - it's an amazing, early gig, 30.6.07 ... cathouzouf
Every week, readers are invited to send pics of people they think look alike... Emile Nelligan is a French Canadian poet. They say these two artists, with their romantic look, aren't afraid of the big classical music. Mika will perform with OSM in February 2015 and there was an Opera tribute to Nelligan in 1990. Never seen so much of Mika in my local paper!

dcdeb
Here's an article already from Metronews in France, which conducted the Q & A with Mika today. http://touch.metronews.fr/culture/mika-quand-un-chanteur-joue-un-role-dans-the-voice-ca-se-voit-tout-de-suite/mndc!
I'm translating the interview, here is the 1st part 'When a singer plays a role in The Voice, we see it immediately' The live shows of The Voice start this Saturday night on TF1. Do you think the winner of the 2014 season is in your team? I hope so, but I realise there is a lot of competition. In my team, I think there are 2 potential winners... but I can't give you names. The way the show takes place is very funny. Contrary to other shows, you can participate at The Voice even if you're signed with a record company. When I make my decisions, I know that I'm not only fighting with the artist, but often with the team behind the artist. But I also encounter problems with contestants without experience. Kendji, for example, had never been on stage. Now people recognize him in the street and I think he starts feeling pressure. I'm afraid he'll get overwhelmed. How did you live the first eliminatory shows? And do you have any regret? No because the advantage of this quite long casting process, it is to allow you to discover the personality, the emotional depth of each person. When someone plays a role in The Voice, we see it immediately. This kind of shows only work when you find a way to preserve some sort of sincerity. Not only from the coaches, but mostly from the talents. The show is followed on social networks. Do you read the comments about you and your talents? No, I don't look at them. I know that my choices are often criticized, but the advantage of The Voice, is that they let me explain myself. And I am not going to obey the Internet users! The only time I doubted was when I had to choose between Marina and Jacynthe. It was hard. Jacynthe had just finished her path in The Voice in Quebec. Marina also participated in a TV show, 'X Factor', but she was much younger. I thought maybe she would be able to reveal herself a bit more. To surprise. camille*
Between those who have some experience and real beginners, do your contestants have common points? I'd say they're all in the same spirit. They are young, they have a rather fresh sound. They are not necessarily perfect and standard voices. Spleen, for example, is very technical when he goes from one voice to the other. Caroline always breaks her voice. Elodie doesn't know how to control herself. Even with their background, contestants like Marina or Fréro Delavega have a quite modern and real sound. Spleen seems unmanageable. How do you imagine live shows with him? With me it's always going well. But then, how can we stop him? It's TV! When he arrived disguised for the Battles, I wasn't aware. He does what he wants and afterwards he deals with the consequences. I don't know at all what he's going to do on the live shows. You often said you were looking for people who would be able to release an album. Have you already identified the one who's got more potential? Some writers have already called me to say they had started writing for one of my female contestants. It's quite interesting to see who makes them want to write. However, we never really know who's going to make albums and who's going to be successful. On The Voice, the most important thing is to identify a sound and a musical style so that you imagine a recording future for each person. And I can tell you that each choice of song is a fight. camille*
Do you fear that some contestants will win only thanks to their popularity and not their talent? No! Imagine 2 guys singing very well. One is very handsome, 18 years old, and the other one less handsome, 29 and a little bit fat. To highlight the latter is the challenge. It's part of the game and you have to be realistic: it would be mad to say that physical appearance doesn't count. But it's also up to each artist to ask themselves how to be valued to tell their story, to get connected with people. Nowadays winners from talent shows are not always successful. Do you think this concept is declining? It's easy to criticize the concept. If too many people from The Voice were successful, it would be a problem. If there were none... it would also be a problem! If there are already a few ones, it's already a success. Especially when it's unordinary people like Luc Arbogast. In the US and UK, contestants are much more formatted. What was your very first reaction when you were invited to participate to The Voice? I said 'it depends'. I had already done a show in Italy and my condition was to be free. In France, I'm not controlled, except sometimes for my clothes!
camille*
On this subject, we have seen you a lot with your famous electric blue suit... Me too, so I sent it to the Grévin museum! I didn't want to see it anymore. It's icky, I didn't even clean it. If you smell the sculpture, it stinks! Is there a real competition between the coaches? Yes, otherwise it would be dull. It's like breakfast in a Lebanese home, everyone is shouting at each other. But then, we leave our chairs and we stay together. The production insists on this. We eat, we drink coffee, we smoke all together in a small lounge especially for us. It protects this familial side. About this, I don't understand why it's being said that Florent Pagny and I hate each other! Where are you in the writing of your new album? I've just spent 2 months in LA, in a house where I built a studio. It will be an album in English, with some French songs. My songs talk about love, life, money, my frustrations. There are some topics which are a little bit political, but make you dance. Musically I really limited myself, because I didn't want to be lost in the production. It starts with piano-voice and it sounds like what I was doing when I was 19. That is to say? It's a kind of joyful anarchy. I like the idea of being an 'enfant terrible'. Actually I love the absurd, I see it everywhere, in my daily life. In this respect I'm obsessed with the writer Dario Fo. For me, he is a hero. I'm seeing him next week to work on something. I can't say anything yet... This man is the archetype of the enfant terrible. Committed, but very funny at the same time. Sorry for all these different posts!
