Nezza
And here's the first of the new batch! It's from a magazine called Il Venerdì (Friday) that was out, funnily enough, on Friday Thanks again to Claudia for the scans And here's my translation: Escaping from the bullies I became a star The problems created by his dyslexia (“I read very slowly”), an adolescence spent in the “safety” of his room, the sudden success. Confesses the Lebanese singer, who will be in Milan on the 21st of April. And he lets us know that we’ll see a wonderful show. At the beginning, when he was topping the charts in half the countries of the world with his single Grace Kelly, Lady Gaga, who was trying desperately to become a star, was a fan of his. It was the beginning of 2007, and Mika - alias Mika Penniman, born in Beirut 26 years ago - conquered the British press. His easy yet sophisticated pop and high pitched and strong voice made people hail you as a miracle. The BBC declared that “a new Freddie Mercury has been born”. And Brian May, Queen’s guitarist, agreed. Now Mika’s getting ready to stat the most important tour of his career, after the release of his second album, The Boy Who Knew Too Much. And he’s in hysterics when he thinks of the day that Gaga, by then a pop diva, rang him on the phone. “I’m in London, shall we go out for dinner together?”. How could he refuse the gallant invitation from the Madonna of the new millennium? “She told me, I’ll come to get you at home. She arrives, almost naked. Followed by fifty paparazzi. She was wearing a loincloth, a leather bra, and thigh-high leather patent leather boots. She was holding a little black and white umbrella. My sister opened the door in her pyjamas and funny slippers. Gaga - thinking that it was an actual outfit - exclaimed “Dear, you look enchanting!”. Now neither he can go around London without being followed by paparazzi. The boy with flat feet is now a VIP and for the first time he isn’t playing to theatres of 2,000 people, but to arenas of 12,000. “I can’t wait until the 21st of April, when I’ll bring my tour and my wild imagination to the stage in Milan. I’ve invested all my savings in this project. The costumes are crazy; no big designers, I’ve raided the theatre for material, wardrobe from the circus and vaudeville. My three sisters helped me, one collected material for four years, another designed the costumes, the youngest one took care of the production. My 19 year old brother who studies architecture, has designed enormous luminous structures. My motto is: imperfect but fascinating. The theatre of the absurd according to Mika. Welcome to my handmade chaos.” Mika will be playing again in Italy in July - on the 6th at the Ippodromo delle Capannelle in Rome, and on the 7th in Villa Manin in Coidropo, in the province of Udine. “I’ll be playing at home too, in Lebanon”, he says enthusiastically, “Beirut’s left permanent marks, even if we escaped the war when I was one year old. In Paris we were part of a large Lebanese community that carried on as if we were still down there, at home. In my imagination I live in the entire world. I was born in Lebanon, grew up in France, emigrated to the United States, uprooted to England.” His songs create a continuous flow of images, they’re cartoons designed with music and voices. “I’ve been dyslexic since I was a child,” he explains, “I can only read slowly and I have a need to express myself in a very simple way. Using images and metaphors in lyrics helps me to recreate situations that I could only describe with a tangle of words. When I was in the studio recording too, I wanted an environment full of colourful flowers; transforming the space into that of a crazy man’s room, where a sublime chaos reigned, a very creative chaos. And my bedroom - where I felt like a star ever since I was a boy, safe from the bullying that I suffered from at school - my studio and dressing rooms are the same: photos stuck on the ceiling, a mixture of different things, clothes and objects that have been collected during various trips. I can only produce in the middle of that chaos.” Like many pop singers, Mika never learned to read or write music. “When I get a flash of inspiration and a melody comes to me I record everything on my phone” he says. “In my free time I amuse myself with Charlotte Gainsburg’s new CD, it’s genius, and with the greats of the past that I discover every day. Like the Brazilian singer Milton Nascimento. Now I’m studying his masterpieces, Mineas Geraes, Clube da Esquina. But I also listen to Groove Armada, Nina Simone - she’s my obsession - and Indietro by Tiziano Ferro. I never snob a good song. Even so, I can never understand what people see in Tokio Hotel’s songs. In America, after the release of Life in Cartoon Motion, Mika became a sort of cult pop singer. He sells tickets for shows in concert halls that hold 20,000 people, but his songs aren’t played on the radio. He shrugs. “They think I’m strange. They say my voice’s too feminine. They think I‘m an unpredictable artist, so I‘m too risky. Someone who says what they think in the United States is treated like a hand grenade. My mouth’s too big. For example, seeing as we’re in Rome, I’d like to say that I don’t agree with the Vatican about abortion, divorce, contraception or homosexuality. And I don’t like how they’re dealing with the issue of paedophile priests.” Because of his honesty, his insecure and tender playfulness, and his musical cartoons, Mika’s pop is considered childish in the States. “I’m not childish,” he protests, “No, actually, I am. An artist has to nurture his inner child. The other day I saw a washing machine that I liked, I bought three in different colours - a red one, a blue one, and a grey one. They go very well together.”

mari62
Forte degli oltre 5 milioni di dischi venduti, Mika stende tutti e se ne va come un razzo, lanciato verso il successo. http://www.mauxa.com/cultura/musica/2490-mika-sbarca-a-milano-con-il-suo-the-boy-who-knew-too-much.html Google translation, i just corrected the next to last sentence,v which isn't very clear in Italian either: there must be some mistake MIKA LANDS IN MILAN WITH HIS THE BOY WHO KNEW TOO MUCH A predictable sold out for the only Italian date who has led the extravagant singer Mika last night to the Mediolanum Milan Forum. "The Boy Who Knew Too Much" is the title of the album came out September 18 on the Universal label, which resulted from the eponymous tour that is bringing the new prince of pop around Europe. Preceded by a short performance by rapper Nesle, the stage comes alive and starts to warm up the instruments, while a curtain-style "Happy Days" comes to life thanks to the band members (6 items in all) that will accompany the singer during the concert. Simulating a television - presumably the 60s - an improvised exceptional reporter Ian McKellen announced the launch of the shuttle, suddenly, from heaven Mika arrives, dressed in an astronaut suit and suspended cables transparent dance among the stars the famous tune of "2001: A Space Odyssey." A truly unusual and spectacular entry, which immediately suggests sophistication and style of the singer. Its retro charm and captivating voice draw us immediately with force, and the celestial spheres that surround the singer shake the tune of "Relax", a song that has become one of the many who have known Mika Tormentoni in Italy. After a nice curtain with a suitcase, which right now is a fundamental part of the scenery and recalling in part the mysterious case of "Pulp Fiction", switch to "Big Girl - You Are Beautiful", and meanwhile the screen circular slide image colorful animation and comics that will contribute to the taste of this spectacular concert. At the end of the piece two huge legs of a woman appearing on the sides of the stage, complete with heels and tattoo that recalls the "m" Mika, then rapidly deflate (special effects from an almost circus characterize the entire show). The famous falsetto vocal style that features the singer is not slow to be felt, and disrupts the entire auditorium echoing a tune on the 70, even simulating the sound of a trumpet with his voice. Really histrionic and engaging style of Mika, that in a nearly flawless Italian loves enjoy moments of relaxation with lots of fans who crowd in front of the stage and sing at loud "Good Girl Gone" and "Blue Eyes". There is also space to remember the last time the singer was in Milan, in an abridged version of his show for the theater Franco Parenti anticipating his new tour. "Any Other World" is one of many pieces that allows the singer to show off his skills as excellent pianist as well as a virtuoso singer, and very interesting are a couple of moments when the opera blends the voice of alienating Mika - who may abuse it a bit '- creating an unusual contamination. The tune of "Billy Brown" is jumping all, so you can admire the fanciful costumes of the singer, as her coat completely covered with colored feathers, which summarizes an exemplary personality and imaginative creative artist. "Touches You" prelude to the appearance of a Chinese dragon on stage and then slightly change log with the beautiful "I See You". With the apparent simplicity of a child, Mika makes us dream and transports in a setting that simulates a secret diary of the singer, to attack immediately with the notes of "Rain" and "Love Today", two of the most successful Lebanese artist at the end of which simulates a fun performance of the band members. "We Are the Golden" and "Toy Boy" accompany us towards the end of this spectacular concert, which ends with an explosion of color as if we were at the Rio carnival, with simulations of street music and colorful balloons that recall the costumes Mika. Huge pupazzoni style "The Corpse Bride" Tim Burton invade the stage in a riot of applause and cheers. I wonder if the lady, who at the beginning of the show said timidly "Let's hope he's good live", has changed her mind. Judging from her jumping she did. Strong of more than 5 million records sold, Mika spreads all and goes like a rocket launched to success. Edited April 23, 2010 by mari62
Kodes100
Thanks Mari! That is a good review! "I wonder if the lady, who at the beginning of the show said timidly "Let's hope he's good live", has changed her mind. Judging from her jumping she did. Strong of more than 5 million records sold, Mika spreads all and goes like a rocket launched to success." Go Mika!!
mari62
Si apre con l’esplosiva Relax (Take It Easy), con Mika appena uscito dai panni dell’astronauta e pronto a diventare un novello Piccolo Principe, si prosegue con parecchi brani dell’ultimo album The Boy Who Knew Too Much come Blame It On The Girls, Rain e la ballad I See You. Perso fra i pianeti e le sue note incantate. http://albymen.wordpress.com/2010/04/22/live-mika-forum-–-milano/ Google translation: (made a little better by me ) [LIVE] @ Mika Forum - Milan Of albymen My love for him is well known. The problem is that every time I see him live i like him more. I'm talking about Mika, who last night enchanted many fans at the Forum di Assago (MI) with a show that has left everyone mouth agape: two hours of songs, with all the hits of his career, in a magic context to say the least. It starts in a sitting-room of the late 60's concert and delivers, literally, the pop star on the moon, planets between iridescent blanket of stars, and then continues in a book with enchanted pages, populated by monsters, freaks and characters born from his tumultuous imagination. There is a magic bag where creative ideas come out and an umbrella from which silver glitter rains, but the protagonist of all this circus is Mika: he's not yet thirty and already master of the stage, with a theatricality and a stage presence like we have never seen from a long time, to develop a voice capable of acrobatic virtuosity and exciting although at times excessive. It opens with the explosive Relax (Take It Easy) Mika just comes out of astronaut's clothes and is ready to become a new Little Prince, continues with several tracks from his album The Boy Who Knew Too Much such as Blame It On The Girls, Rain and the ballad "I See You" The climax of emotion comes with Happy Ending and Over My Shoulder (very moving, because they are two pieces of rare intensity and compositional interpretation. Be ready to listen with your heart broken, though). The end of the show is all about celebration, in a relentless climax that involves the public to the rhythm of Love Today, We Are Golden (who live unleashes its full potential of youthful anthem), the megahit Grace Kelly and the grand finale between confetti in order for Lollipop. Mika is the essence of pop: a parallel world where magic and everything has been done and everything is still to be invented. He has the talent and physique du role to be the new Little Prince. Lost among the planets and its enchanting notes.
