suzie
I'm so disappointed, the worst crap I've seen in a very long time. It's like he doesn't even want a carrier! Don't despair. He might simply not be interested in this French song at all. Like he mentioned in the video accompanying it, he was not planning to release a song, let alone a video at this moment in time. (It was probably needed as a promo tool for his exclusive gig ) Perhaps we should actually be pleased that he did not waste his time on it () I am all positive about the coming album - he is probably keeping his cards close to his vest. lollipop_monkey
Meh. Not my cup of tea. To each their own. I don't find some random dude singing to a cactus and some other random dude conking himself in the face with a weight to be particularly funny - and if there's any real connection between this video and the song lyrics, well, it's lost on me too. And let's be honest, who wouldn't rather see a Mika video that, you know, actually includes Mika? I don't see the need for cactus guy, shaving guy, weight guy, etc. I would have preferred a video that is three and a half minutes of what we see from 2:45 - 3:15 - just people randomly dancing around. Hanson's video for Give A Little is entirely that - just the band dancing and playing, and random people dancing around. I prefer that.

dcdeb
Well, this video I enjoyed! Me too! But what I'd like to know is, why do people get so defensive when someone expresses an opinion contrary to theirs? Lighten up, everyone! This happens EVERY time Mika does ANYthing -- releases a song, a video, wears a new shirt or scarf or hat, gets a new haircut... some will love it, others won't. That's just the way it goes. Different strokes for different folks and all that. NOT ONE of us is saying that we hate MIKA and everything he stands for. There are just those who find the video disappointing/weird/uncreative/ whatever, along with those who find it funny/cute/entertaining/whatever. It's got nothing to do with us keeping Mika from doing whatever he wants to do! He WILL do whatever he wants, regardless. So let's just end all these discussions about whose opinion is right or better. We're all Mika fans here, whether we love this video/song or not. If someone says they don't like the video, don't get upset -- they're allowed to not like it! Just like people who like it are allowed to LIKE it. There's room here for everyone to express what they think without being made to feel stupid or wrong for how they feel. Which is MY opinion. crazyaboutmika
I like it , but in my head, I had quite a different vision of what it could have been...I think that's because I've been listening to it so much, like when you read a book, then see the movie and you are surprised... It suits the song well, but I'd love to see Mika's winking at the end , just for a sec, that would be cool The vid where Mika explains the song is great for fangurling
nenartus
I can't translate it all now, cause i'm on my ipod, but he talks about EMD, how he thought it was good for the summer, festivals, and he says he is a big fan of Fanny and that he adores the clip, he thinks it's funny. And he hopes we like it too. "check it out" ha. Now I'm even more disappointed that he isn't in the vid 'cause I still hoped a bit it was a joke.. So, let's go. "Hi, it's mika, the song "elle me dit" has been finished a couple of weeks ago & 48h after, it was played on the radio. It's probably the most quick transition that i got with one of my songs. It was not in my plans for the third album which, actually, is in english but which doesn't come out before 2012. There are some french songs in the bonus. But for the moment, we thought "why not ? It's very festive, fun... It's a good spirit and why wait ?" So, we decided to make the song come out & we shoot a music video with the director K... (??) who is an australian woman. With, of course, Fanny Ardent's participation. I'm a big fan of Fanny &, in my visual references, we thought, with K..., of François Ozon & also Wes Anderson's movies. More particularly "the royal tenenbaums". I really like the music video. I think it's fun, I think it's the same spirit as the song. It's festive, pop but it's a little kind of weird but it makes me laugh & I hope that you like it too. So, that's it. "Elle me dit" on Youtube France. Check it out. " Please, forgive me for my mistakes. I wish you can understand what I wrote even if I might be a little bit confused in my words. Thank you very much! It's not confusing, it's great. I dunno...it just makes me feel good... Specially that old guy dancing, i think he's funny... C'mon don't be so hard on the guy, it's summer time, beach time, heat time, a video like this kindof refreshes the air... My thoughts exactly. The video fits the song well. I just have problem with all this french. I'm apologizing to french speaking fans, but there are much more of us that don't speak the language. And we are all waiting new Mika's songs and videos, and I don't mind him singing songs in French, I like the french Elle Me Dit version better. But he talks about video only in French, so I suppose the other audience is not welcome to know what is going on there, and what inspired him. They posted it on youtube, not on French or Canadian television, so in would bi nice that everybody can understand more than "check it out". :dunno:Thankfully there are some kind and great fans who are translating everything to us

Christine
Aww our Mama Mod has come to save the day. Define "good". I was just being facetious. Although if you really want to know I would start with at least having people who can properly lip synch and act well. My idea of humour is Seinfeld and the BBC's The Office. So this kind of slapstick thing that was considered funny 60 years ago is not entertaining to me in the slightest. I loved WAG because it was beautifully filmed with super saturated colours and edited to heighten the energy of the music. This was not. Exactly! It's just a freaking video, it's not that the world is about to end or something... I am actually quite enjoying this even though I don't like the video. Mika is all about Marmite and I think I am only truly disappointed if I think something is meh. If I really have a strong reaction then it's all good. Specially that old guy dancing, i think he's funny... Okay, gotcha. I find him a bit repulsive, but I understand. Do you guys have the views count stuck at 312 or is it just me? This is normal when a YouTube video gets a lot of views. They investigate to make sure nothing dodgy is going on with the video. Once they remove the freeze all the view counts will be added at once. So it will probably go from 312 straight to several thousand.

So this kind of slapstick thing that was considered funny 60 years ago is not entertaining to me in the slightest. I loved WAG because it was beautifully filmed with super saturated colours and edited to heighten the energy of the music. This was not. Well, the concept of good humour, or good music, is so subjective that we could discuss it here forever. I'm a huge fan of british comedy (Allo Allo and Little Britain being at the top) and I know many people who don't even SMILE when watching it, while I'm rolling on the floor laughing my a$$ off. Anyway, I think (and I may be wrong) that the lip synch detail was not exactly a crucial point, so maybe it wasn't supposed to be THAT good. As for the appearence of the video, I find it very "french". I say this because sometimes I find myself watching MCM and many of the videos that catch my attention for their different looks/colours/etc are french. Maybe that's why this one didn't shock me that much, don't know. And I don't really find it repulsive or crappy, just...different. And hey...I didn't even like the song in the first place. I am actually quite enjoying this even though I don't like the video. Mika is all about Marmite and I think I am only truly disappointed if I think something is meh. If I really have a strong reaction then it's all good. I find the song really "meh". I know he did it for fun, I know it's not supposed to represent the whole album (thank God) but still, I'm not crazy about it. I'm not crazy about the video either, I just find if funny and appropriate to the song.
katydid1994
Really disappointed that he isn't in the video. I think him and momma P with her finger wagging should of been at the end or something like that. But I do think it's cute, not knowing french, I think the young shaggy hair guy is the funniest, I like the water gun part the best. And he looks terrific in the intro clip. guylainem123
i like the song alot more then the video... The video reminded me of a sitcom called "la petite vie" we had a few years back in Quebec, about a very disfunctional family (ex: both mother & father were played by male actors, they slept vertical against the wall & their daughter made her shepherd's pie with sideways layers instead of horizontal) I wish Mika would have played one of those nerdy teens in the video or at least a fly on the wall it's not at all what i expected though...
