NEW single BOUM BOUM BOUM out June 11th!

I just didn't want to give up on him, but those wonderful days of 2007 don't seem to have a hope of coming back. Not in UK anyway.

You shouldn't look at it as giving up on him, just accepting things the way they are. We knew very early on (even 2007) that Mika probably was not going to break big in English North America but it was understandable. Even Robbie Williams couldn't break here. Mika went from doing gigs in North America every 3 or 4 months to every 2 or 3 years. That is just the reality of following a European artist rather than someone who lives in Toronto. I see Rufus Wainwright a couple of times a year but if I want to see Paolo Nutini that often I need to go to the UK.

So yes it is sad and ridiculous that Mika has been based in London most of his life and is no longer very active in the UK but it is what it is. I think Mika accepted it a long time ago and feels he's a niche artist in places like the US and has never been prepared to do what it takes to become a Katy Perry or Lady Gaga worldwide. It requires a lot more than talent. Being a star like Katy Perry must take single minded focus and it must swallow up her whole life for years at a time. I haven't seen any indication from Mika in many years that he wants to spend his life like that.

Because records have been released here on Tuesdays for at least the past 30 years (maybe always). So it was either the 10th or the 17th and they are never going to release it here before Europe.

Yes, I realize that Tuesdays are our release day, but are Wednesdays release day in France/Europe? It's Monday in the UK, right? If there's no set day in Europe, could they have released everywhere today? :dunno:

I'm just impatient! :wait:

I think that its going to be like Elle me Dit again, a good catchy pop song, which will be played in the French radio (especially after promoting himself so much with the Voice), and other french speaking countries, but that will have no significance in the rest of the world...

No offense, but I so hope you're wrong.

It's ironic that the things that made us love Mika in the first place, are the things that marginalized him.

He never wanted to appear in celebrity magazines, or compromise himself by talking about things that he wasn't ready to talk about. He just wanted to make his music. This meant that he wasn't really playing by the rules, with regard to the UK press and I think some of them took a dislike to Mika in 2007 because they couldn't rake up a scandal, or any juicy gossip about him.

He may have become more mainstream, work wise, with the reality shows, but I think he still has principles, and he's not panicking about the situation in the UK. For all of that, I do admire him.

I may not be raising my hopes for the single being successful in the UK. I know it's about as unlikely as me running a marathon. But that doesn't mean that I don't hope that somewhere in the future he may come into his own.

But I don't think it will be the same as before. I think it will be more about the writing, rather than the performing, and I think it will be something like a stage show or opera, that he writes. Or perhaps a movie soundtrack that gets his name mentioned again, and with more respect than he had before.

So I'm not thinking of the near future now, not in this country. I'm thinking of maybe years ahead. Atm he has Italy, France and Quebec onside, and I'm very glad he has them.

can someone who understands French make a little summary about what he says? I'm really curious now :naughty2: .

Here's some lyrics, there are mistakes cause I don't get every word, sorry.

And the translation is totally litteral cause I don't want to give my interpretation (well, there's not so much to interpret actually :aah:)

Yesterday we were at your mother's place, she almost fell over

Hearing the dressing room when you and me were doing boom boom boom

In the hotels lifts we went up to 7th heaven

we send the bellboys away when you and me do boom boom boom

and all the bourgeois of the 16th are wondering why I love you

so that no zoom is needed when you and me do boom boom boom

When we receive the guests we can't even resist

between tea and lookoums there's time enough to do boom boom boom[

It's true that walls have ears, that all the neighbours wake up

but this is the way you make love, when you and me do boom boom boom

and all the bourgeois of the 16th are wondering why I love you

so that no zoom is needed when you and me do boom boom boom

Loving us this way, it is not vulgar

we have always some stuff to do, shelves do badaboom

when you and me do boom boom boom

A summary you say?

Sex

Was that too vulgar oops

Seriously is it ok to swear?

Because what the f***... I do not like it... Probably the first time I encounter this feeling... That strong...

Excuse me for that one... Expressing my thoughts.

Did we have this 90 second snippet of the song yet? If we did, forgive me -- I was away for 3-4 days and may have missed it.

:fisch: Translation please :teehee:

Yesterday we were at your mom's she almost fell on the floor

When hearing from the dressing room when you and I were we're doing boom boom boom

In the elevator of the hotel we went on the 7th sky

We're wandering in the (?groom) when you and I go boom boom boom

All the bourgeois of the 16th wonder why I love you

We don't need a zoom when you and I go boom boom boom

When we received guests we couldn't resist

*To be continued...*

Can someone continue it for me, my class starts in five minutes I won't be able to finish :( but yeah the lyrics are horrible IMHO...

I don't mind that the song is in French. I listen to French songs a lot lately. But, anyway, I'm totally in love with this song. Very fresh, and makes me wanna dance and brings back my old silly days, when I danced in my room like an idiot listening to Mika's songs. Everything I've heard is perfect in this song (for me). Love it! I'll put it on replay, I'm sure.

Thanks, Sylvie and Raya.

But honestly... what's so terrible? Surely there are plenty of songs that are even more explicit than this? Or is it because it's Mika singing rather explicit lyrics that you don't like them?

Even though I wish I could sing along to it, I can't help it, I love the song -- it's catchy and summery and fun and I know I'm going to be playing it on a continuous loop until my husband threatens divorce! :naughty:
