As promised, here is the translation of the interview he had with the dutch Veronica Magazine As you might notice, there are some words which I coloured red.. I'm sorry, but i don't know the right translation for those words --- Mika the new Mercury? He created an anthem for big girls, is being compared to Freddie Mercury and scores a hit with Grace Kelly. Mika (23) is ready to conquer the world with confetti and coloured balloons. The gigs of Micheal Holbrook Penniman, better known as Mika, are equally colourful and flamboyant as the cover of his debut-album Life in Cartoon Motion. While girls with Alice in Wonderland-dresses and blond wigs ru…

By Jim Welte - MP3.com March 16, 2007 at 10:01:00 AM British singer plays a set of over-the-top melodic pop that is equal parts Freddie Mercury and George Michael. AUSTIN, Texas--Do you like to skip gleefully through fields of daisies? Are you looking for just the right soundtrack for that? Mika is your man. Equal parts Freddie Mercury and George Michael, the British newcomer is a one-man melodic army. He performed a fun-filled set at Eternal last night, singing one unbridled, angst-free pop song after another. From the moment he took the stage, the singer stood out among the brooding rockers that permeate much of SXSW. Wearing bright red p…

Just to let you know that Radio 2's coverage of the South By South West festival, including Mika as well as many, MANY others, runs from 4.30-9pm this Saturday. 'Fraid I can't be more specific than that - he is mentioned in the 6.30-7.30 and the 7.30-9pm sections of the show, but I guess could well be in the first 2 hours too.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY IM FIRST TO POST THIS!!! I think... here you go! actually written by him! Patrick Wolf is a genius. Funny things happen on aeroplanes. I don’t know what it is. The unusually confined space, the recycled kerosene infused air or maybe its just being closer to God. My opinions become extreme. I tend to rant/bitch about everything, mostly to my sister (who pretends to listen), dance around euphorically to my iPod or cry at movies. I NEVER cry watching movies… normally. I am on a British Airways flight on my way to South by Southwest music festival in Texas. The flight attendant clearly doesn’t like me and he’s made…

Mika's life in motion By SIMON COSYNS February 02, 2007 No time for lying around ... tousle-haired dandy Mika is a man in demand MIKA - Life in Cartoon Motion Rating - 4 SO Mika, how does it feel to be No1 with Grace Kelly? “Slightly surreal!†How has your life changed? “It’s all gone Willy Wonka!†How would you sum up your sound and style? “Psychobabble, schizophrenic, hyper-pop!†To say that Mika is excited about the success of his all-conquering new single is putting it mildy. But, as SFTW discovered this week, the tousle-haired dandy has also got his feet firmly on the ground…

I found this review of the Manchster gig, couldn't find it already posted.. so here it is.. looks like someone got out of bed onthe wrong side!! ******************************************************* By Hannah Wysome (gig: 27/02/07) BBC Manchester Bumped up from the modest Academy 3 to the giant Academy on the strength of one song, Mika did his best to give the people what his record company are telling them they want. Mika When a song sits at the top of the charts for six weeks and is hammered to death on national prime-time radio, you can’t begrudge people for wanting to go along and check out the artist live. However, lesson one for the rising s…

Another old gig review again I can't find it already posted ***************************************************** Mika magic BBC Leeds Mika onstage in Leeds By site user Jackie Hitchen went to see Mika at the Cockpit on Wednesday 28 February 2007. It was a full house at the Cockpit to welcome the man tipped (by some) for greatness in 2007. Michael Penniman aka Mika is a relative newcomer and yet when he arrives on stage to rapturous applause you could be mistaken for thinking this guy has been a star for years. Flamboyantly dressed and strikingly handsome, he is a man to whom being a pop star comes naturally. He and his band launch straight into Rela…

Mika made a name for himself the newfangled way: On MySpace, and without a promoter. Web-Exclusive Commentary By Jac Chebatoris Newsweek Updated: 8:22 a.m. ET March 16, 2007 It’s shaping up to be that the casualties of MySpace.com might well be music publicists. How else to explain that Mika, a Lebanon-born, London- and Paris-bred singer-songwriter debuted at No. 1 on the U.K. charts before his CD was even released? MySpace is as old news as freeze-dried astronaut food now, but Mika, who is being touted as music’s next big thing, is in its debt—and not the hard-working publicist’s—for getting him on top of the charts in the U.K. and Canada already, and li…

THE CORNELL DAILY SUN A NEW FLAMBOYANT FREDDIE Mika's debut album hits high note By Justine Fields Ithaca, New York Thurs, March 8, 2007 Deckhead: Mika’s debut album hits high note Life in Cartoon Motion is a brilliant pop album by the eccentric Mika Penniman. On his debut album, Mika (Mee-ka) brings Freddie Mercury back to life while intertwining the familiar sounds of pop music’s greatest musicians in every note. In doing so he has created pop compositions that are, at the same time, like everything the world has heard before and nothing like what the world has heard before. The single “Grace Kelly†screams of Queen as Mika

I couldn't find trace of this article already here - but apologise if its here lurking somewhere! ************************************************** Mika, Koko, London - FT.com By Ludovic Hunter-Tilney Published: March 1 2007 18:13 | Last updated: March 1 2007 18:13 Mika’s rise has been rapid. The Beirut-born singer – real name Mica Penniman – has scored UK number ones with his first single, “Grace Kellyâ€Â, and his debut album, Life in Cartoon Motion. His music is as bubbly, gaudy and saucy as a hen party, and it zeroes in with hidden ruthlessness on the British public’s insatiable appetite for camp. Announcing h…

Well, I'm very excited to see a nice article on Mika in the USA Today newspaper -- it's one of our few "national" newspapers, in that it's distributed all over the country. It's probably the biggest publication to run anything on Mika that I've seen here so far. Here's the link: http://www.usatoday.com/life/music/news/2007-03-14-new-brits-mika_N.htm As he spends some time here in North America for the next couple weeks, I hope that means we'll be seeing more and more such articles! I just wish that one of the articles would be an announcement that Mika will be performing in or at least NEAR to the Washington, DC area! dcdeb
