London Free Press By DAVID FRIEND, CP TORONTO -- Pop singer Mika decks out his concert venues with balloons, confetti, clowns and all things reminiscent of a six-year-old's birthday party. "What I try to do is take reality and just hype it up to a level where it makes it more livable," explains the 23-year-old newcomer who exploded onto the music scene earlier this year. Tall and lanky, Mika wears a bright orange hooded sweatshirt and his long curly hair sways in every direction as he talks about his debut album, Life in Cartoon Motion, which entered Canada's SoundScan charts at No. 2. Helped by massive hype and reviews comparing him to legends Elton J…

Canada.com. National Post David Marchese, Salon Published: Tuesday, April 03, 2007 As he tries to conquer this continent, Beirut-born, British-raised singer-songwriter Mika is forcing people to consider whether American audiences are likely to accept an openly gay pop star. Currently touring behind his just-released in America and already huge in England debut album, Life in Cartoon Motion (accurately described on his MySpace page as sounding like "Beck via Queen and Elton John and a touch of Rufus W."), the 23-year-old Mika has been lighting up the blogosphere with discussion about his sexual status and earning the love from high profile fans like Perez…

Hey guys, I was reading on the Paul Smith website that Mika's modelling pictures would be in (I think) Elle, GQ and Vogue magazines, but does anyone know what issue? I bought the Elle two months ago, but there was no pictures of Mika. Or, am I a bit too late and this issue was published months ago?!? I hope not!!! Please can somebody let me know?!? Thanks in advance X (Sorry, I always seem to go overboard with the whole smilie thing!!!)

Link: http://www.mtvasia.com/Onair/Buzzworthy/200704/index.html Born in Beirut in the 80s, Mika kick-started his singing career by learning from a Russian singing teacher. From there, Mika picked up the trade professionally and did everything from various recordings with the Royal Opera House to the Orbit Chewing gum jingle. By age 9, the little boy already knew that songwriting was his destiny. A self-taught piano virtuoso, gymnastic vocalist and born entertainer, Mika eats and breathes music. Right now, it’s certainly hard to characterize Mika in just one word. A man of many talents, he is a songwriter, performer, producer and orchestrator. With all those h…

Casablanca/Universal Republic’s Mika, another U.K. star seeking cross-oceanic success, will debut with around 30k, followed by Universal Motown’s Kaiser Chiefs, yet one more neo-British Invasion critical fave looking to make inroads with stateside rock fans. dunno how europe and america's taste can be so different. let's hope he'll do an corinne bailey rae (who debuted with just 20k and have went on to sell 1.2 million records in america)

British Singer Mika Makes U.S. Debut By NEKESA MUMBI MOODY AP Music Writer March 30, 2007, 12:49 PM EDT NEW YORK -- Being different is a key trait if you want to make yourself stand out in the musical arena. It is not a prized attribute, however, during those awkward adolescent years. Mika, the latest singing sensation from across the pond, found out both lessons at an early age. Beirut-born and Paris-raised until he was 9, he found himself an outcast after his family moved to London. His interest in piano and singing, along with his dyslexia, further distanced himself from classmates, and he became the prey of bullies. Away from school, he began …

PR-Inside.com 2007-04-01 18:08:07 - Beirut-born singer MIKA refuses to travel anywhere without his favourite brand of tea because only he can brew up a perfect cup. The Grace Kelly singer, who was brought up in England, is very particular about his Earl Grey tea - and hates what is served up to him in cafes around the world. He says, "When you don't drink coffee, you've got to get your tea right." But he admits that even when he packs his own tea, he can't get a decent cup in Los Angeles. He adds, "Los Angeles water makes the worst tea in the world."

By the way, was anyone actually at the festival when Mika was there??? X

Maybe we are too partial with Mika.... we love him so much!!! Has anyone read some bad critics about his music? Look: I'm not asking about his private life (which is only HIS business), but as far as his music is concerned. I'm asking because I feel quite sure bad critics do not exist... but you never can tell!

Just found this before hitting the hay: A Rising British Pop Star Revives a Mercurial Style By JON PARELES Published: March 31, 2007 Clowns handed out balloons and the sound system played perky Top 10 hits before Mika took the stage at the Gramercy Theater on Thursday night. Mika, whose song “Grace Kellyâ€Â was a No. 1 hit in Britain and is currently No. 75 on the Billboard Hot 100, was branding his music as pure pop fun, and he wasn’t kidding. With a big smile on his face and in his voice, and with bright, bouncy, catchy tunes, Mika isn’t flaunting any angst. Born in Lebanon but raised in Paris and London, Mika (whose real name…

The 23-year-old tells Attitude mag, out next week: "I had a meeting with Simon a few years back. He said my songs weren't very good and I wasn't a songwriter. "Then I spotted a gold disc for the Teletubbies single to the left of him and thought, 'This is possibly not the man for me'." Ooh,…

Just wanted to share the good news! Mika magically sprung up 5 positions, from #7 to #2, in the fourth week since LICM's release. It's #1 in Montreal! http://jam.canoe.ca/Music/Charts/ALBUMS.html It is at times like these, fellow world citizens, that I feel proud to be (sort of) Canadian! Now back to schoolwork... P.S. Grace Kelly is at #3 in the Singles sales, up from #10!

Well, it's not an "A", and the reviewer is fairly dismissive, but at least she's not negative... that's at least something good... Especially after the so-so NY Times review and news of the slow US sales Music Review Life in Cartoon Motion (2007) Mika Release Date: Mar 27, 2007; Lead Performance: Mika; Genre: Pop B+ By Beth Johnson On Life in Cartoon Motion, his giddy debut, Londoner Mika is an amalgam of nearly every saucy Brit to falsetto his way down the pop pike, from Freddie Mercury to Scissor Sisters' Jake Shears. C'mon, play the matching game! What is ''Big Girl''? An update of Queen's ''Fat Bottomed Girls''! How about ''Relax''? A Bee Gees-…
